If he truly is that good, I would think the staff would want to pay whatever it takes for the most important position on the OL to protect the blindside of our biggest recruit.I’m of the opinion that you never overpay or go all out for any one player. This one is different though. This isn’t Francis M who you didn’t know if he would translate to OT; this is a guy that looks like a truly elite OT. Everyone wants him, you go in and show that your NIL is tops in the country and send a message to other recruits in the future particularly elite Qbs.
With the Nico (supposed) deal, I did not know that. I thought the coaches could advise/inform the amount they wanted to spend on each recruit. After all, they are the ones the evaluate each recruit and know what they need, importance of each position, and what they think the worth is. LT is the most important position on the OL to protect your most expensive assets. At least that is my thinking. It’s not the staff. It’s Spyre. And they won’t overpay even for an elite level recruit.
West has 8 tackles against power 5 schools over the last 2 seasons.Weird that you count walkons to come up with your 31 number and then don’t count Jordan Thomas, Nimrod, or Herring. Did you expect the walk on guys to start?
The most absurd thought was you left out Tyre West. Do you just not watch the games?
Tyre West is a young DL that got pressure from the 3 tech on a deep DL. Thomas has played amazing on special teams and has made some plays when given the chance. Not his fault Tank played 98% snaps. Nimrod made some HUGE plays for Joe down the stretch. Both Herring's got important snaps this season. There's more to a game than a box scoreWest has 8 tackles against power 5 schools over the last 2 seasons.
Thomas, Nimrod and Herring have done what?
I wouldn’t be surprised if 1 or more of those three transfer. Herring may stick around 1 more year but only because his brother is coming. I think he will still be second string next year.
Nimrod has a bit better stats but also in crap time or crap games and because of injury.
Thomas is the best of the ones you named I probably could have added him in productivity but I’m not sure how to judge him as I didn’t pay much attention to the dbs as individuals this year because it seems like they are taught to let the receivers catch the ball and then try to strip the ball and then if that doesn’t work bring them down 10 yards after contact.
My point was west is in a deep rotation not a starter, Thomas may have played amazing on special teams but ST is normally where all the young’s players or players that don’t get to play, play, and didn’t play much. And important snaps doesn’t mean productivity.Tyre West is a young DL that got pressure from the 3 tech on a deep DL. Elijah led the team in tackles. I get his play could've been better but he fits your need for "productivity". And then if you say it's not all about the box score then the others produced as well. Safeties and IDL had several 4th year + guys playing and producing. Jourdan has been a huge asset on special teams which was a main reason Tenn was in some games this season. Is 19 or 20 years old and a sophomore not young? My point was west is in a deep rotation not a starter, Thomas may have played amazing on special teams but ST is normally where all the young’s players or players that don’t get to play, play, and didn’t play much. Great name.Remington Strickland, an offensive line depth piece that can play all 3 interior lineman positions, including center. Hes not a top of the line O-lineman but he will provide a much needed 2nd option to backup Cooper Mays if he does indeed come back. Id say we will try to get at least 3 offensive linemen, but the next 2 need to be tackles.
I completely agree with you, but dropping $8 million on a kid kinda already sends that message to QBs.I’m of the opinion that you never overpay or go all out for any one player.
