So who is going to do this? No one wants to submit or claim their belt is irrelevant. I don't see boxing anywhere close to fixing itself.

you don't know that. People will step up when their jobs are on the line.

OK, so what do you know that is proving me wrong? This is not a recent problem with boxing. Tell me, who is going to fix it? Can the average Joe even name the heavyweight champion of the world?

lewis was the undisputed champion just 7 years ago, it is a recent problem that can be fixed. As for current heavyweights, wladimir is the ibf champ and i believe briggs is still the wbo champ (i don't even know that he's defended it yet)... unfortunately i know there are two or three more champs and no, i don't know their names.

Just because it can be fixed does not mean it will. None of the boxing organizations are going to willingly give up their title and concede to another organization.

Briggs is the WBO champion but not ranked in the top 15 in the WBC, WBA, or IBF. Yea, boxing is in fine shape.

This is NOT a recent problem. It used to be that the WBC and the WBA were the two recognized belts. Then it was the WBC, WBA and IBF recognized as the three legitimate champions. Then the WBO and whole slew of other belts came on the scene. This is not a recent problem, but it's one that needs to be addressed if boxing wants to be taken seriously. I don't see any major changes being made anytime in the near or even mid-term future.

My observations from the fight:

Mayweather definitely won but I don't enjoy his boxing style -

Mayweather's father looked like Predator

Larry Merchant either had a stroke or was on barbituates

While it was a close fight, it was boring.

That's just Larry Merchant, it's how he is. Every time the #1 HBO Crew does a fight, the hollering in my house goes something like this

ME: "Dear, the Fight's on"

HER "Be right there. How many Martini's has Larry had?"

watched the replay last night.......

it wasn't a terrible fight, but it just kind a never felt like it got started...it was weird.

i do think FM won...i have no problem with the decision, but i was impressed w/oscar. he was definitely the aggressor in the fight.

I watched the fight last night too.

I had it 115-113 in favor of Mayweather...Floyd clearly won the fight imo. I felt like De La Hoya needed a knockout going into the 12th round in order to get a win.

It was a pretty good fight...and I'd watch a rematch, although I don't believe De La Hoya could do much better in a rematch. Hopefully we'll see Mayweather v. Mosely at some point soon.
