Dear Mr. Hart,

What the heck, I will play along. Let's say that Hart goes with your idea and cans Martin at the airport when the team gets back. What then WHO is available and honestly WHO in the hell worth a damn would come to a program that fired their coach in November, unless there were extenuating circumstances like an affair or loss of institutional control..
Since I doubt you can offer up such examples We are going to have to allow Martin time to build a program up with his players and his style and then formulate an opinion as to how his performance is. Until then:popcorn:

CCM is building a system and is doing a great job at developing players. We will make the Tourney this year guys and make a run don't worry. Do you even remember how the 2009 season started? CCM is going through the necessary steps to build a good program.

Sweet 16 here we come, it will take a little while for this team to gel, we will be dancing in the end.:dance2:

I want to say first that I am aware you are paying thousands upon thousands of dollars in buyouts. I also am aware that firing a coach at this point in the season is usually not idea. Even with those things in mind here is why it would be in the best interest of our basketball program to cut ties with coach martin now:

-We have missed the tournament 2 years in a row after being there 6 strait times. Not to mention losing in the first round of the NIT.

- With our play up to this point there is no basketball mind that would tell you Tennessee can continue to play at this level and make the tourney field this season.

- We have IMO the most talented team that we have had on the floor since we went to the elite 8 and it is being wasted. If we change coaches at the end of the season it would take them at least 3 years to get the talent level on the floor back to where it is now.

-By bringing in a new coach we give this team a chance to do something in march. It would not be an easy situation but I am still 100% confident that a coach could make the transition and have our team playing much more consistent and at a higher level pretty quickly.

- Yes I would love to see Bruce Pearl back but at this point I would love to see anyone with a decent track record have a chance with this talent.

It would not take 3 years for a new coach to get in with his players. This is not football. At most, it would take 2 years to have a coach install his offense.

Everything about Martin is boring. His style, his personality, everything. I'm a football fan first but Bruce had me excited about basketball. His style, his personality, everything. Martin hasn't even done a good job keeping Bruce's seat warm. I'm with the Bring Bruce Back crowd. (B to the 3))

If Martin were fired at this point, there would be three potential issues.

(1) Would the players lose their motivation to play because Martin "Their coach" was fired? Would they tank the rest of the season?

(2) What if we squeak in to the NCAA and get hot and go far in the tourney? IT has happened before.......

(3) Could the interim coach save the 2014 recruiting class or would they go elsewhere because Martin was fired?

Hire Eric Spoelstra or gtfo. He wants to come to Tennessee. Hart just doesn't want to pay him. This is all Hart's fault. Hell, he'll probably even bring Lebron James with him.

What coaches do you think will be available in late November for Hart to hire other than unemployed coaches? Surely you don't think Hart would be able to hire a quality coach away from another program barely a month into a season?

Once again, you could not name one reason that CCM should remain the HC nor did you think it was probable that he would be. So the premise of your argument is that firing him now is "stupid" While it is a convincing argument I still disagree.

I stated from the beginning that it was not an Idea situation to fire a coach in November or any time before march for that matter. In this instance I am for it. Simply because this is a more talented team than we have had and will have in the foreseeable future. I do not want to see it finish in the bottom 5 of the conference and play in the NIT. Would it be hard for a new system to be installed absolutely but if we know the current one is not working why not take the chance?

Let me ask this: what makes you think he will finish in the bottom 5 of the conference, considering he HASN'T done that with two prior teams with less experience? That is an asinine statement and there is no proof of such a thing. Fans are irrational.

This has nothing to do with football. Actually it is a totally different situation and different sport. This season has just started you are correct but this is the 3rd year in martin's tenure and there are two losses to point towards another slow start and mediocre season.

Don't get me wrong I love this basketball team. It has all the pieces. A solid point guard in barton with a great scorer in mcrea and one of the best backcourts in the nation. We just don't have a coach that can make the most of that.
