I know our offense is fun to watch and we score alot of points. But until Huepel recognizes that you have to have a defense that can get a stop when you need it. This program won't rise to the top. I never believed we were a top 10 team and don't get me wrong it is by far the best team we have had in several years. Our safeties were out of position and took bad angles to the ball. Is that personnel or coaching? The same guy who is that position coach is also the DC. I listened to certain radio shows that said we kept playing people out of their normal position and asking them to do things that are their weakness not their strengths. That is a poor coaching. This is year 2 under Banks and our defense is just horrible. So, if he is going to stay, we need to bring in some elite recruiters. Because we will need to out recruit his and Willie's poor coaching skills.

So, is it Jimmy and Joe's or X's and O's that is our major issue?

And before you call me a troller or first-time poster etc etc etc. I have been on this page since back when Mr. Adams gave his after the game home party updates and JumpMaster was getting this thing started. I think it was called Gridiron. I just had to re-register because I changed email providers.

Our secondary is 13th out of 14th in the SEC (only better than Vandy) in terms of talent. It's the Jimmy's and Joes. CJH like all coaches obviously wants a defense that can get a stop when they need it. Everyone does.

You said until Heupel recognizes that you need to get stops on defense. Do you realize that the bulk of this recruiting class has been used on defensive players? That looks like recognition to me. It also is an indicator that the issue is primarily the Jimmy and Joe's.

You mean the recruiting class that is ranked by 247Sports at 17th, 9th in the SEC; Rivals 13th, 7th in the SEC (Counting Texas and Oklahoma now) with 23 commitments. So, a "Top 10 team" that has this many needs and kids can see an opportunity of playing time has to recruit better. The staff changes that happen this over season need to include some elite recruiters get them Jimmy's and Joe's.

Yep, OP has 0 clue what he's talking about. "They were playing guys out of position!"....You mean we played Slaughter at CB because we were running out of healthy CBs? What a terrible idea!

We're 2 years off of an NCAA investigation and have arguably the best QB in the country committed, 2 elite edge rushers, an elite DL, an elite ATH, an elite CB, and several other players that fill needs

You're looking at the 2022 class. If you read the names, you'll see a list of guys who are currently freshman. You should be looking at the 2023 class if you want to talk about how we are currently recruiting.

I don't think we were ever healthy in the secondary. If anything, we are vulnerable to depth. It's no secret that fast pace offenses inflate defensive statistics. Special teams and run defense were solid. Hadden annoyed me with his constant jawing and he always seemed to be more interested in stripping the ball than wrapping up and tackling but I can't be mad overall
