You guys should give Wilcox a chance. This man could be the best dc we've had in 50 years. I know we had Monte, he was a great nfl dc. Wilcox only implemented about 1/3 of his defense, the bodies just arent there at the moment. We couldnt run nickel/dime packages hardly at all this year. Being thin along the line doesnt help either. Most people dont understand just how good of a job this def staff done this year.
Once we get some depth and a little more talent, we'll have a nasty D. Barring any injuries, our d-line will be pretty nasty next year.

Dang right. But Volnation expects him to turn champagne outta lemons. The whole team showed growth through the year and I expect steady growth for the next two years. After that, I think we will see how high our ceiling is and what changes would need to be made to go higher.

We had more sacks this year than we did last year with all mighty Orgeron, & dont forget a 1st round draft pick in Dan Williams & a solid DT in Wes Brown.

We had the most INT's in 1 season since 1999, yet we had Eric Berry, Dennis Rogan, & Monte last year. We started a 23 year old true freshmen at SS & 2 1st year startes at CB in Gordon & Teague.

Yet everyone wants to complain about Wilcox

Overall the defense as a whole played well. People were hard on the LB's this year but overall they played really well and so did our secondary. I swear I don't think half the people on here have ever played the game. With an undersized D line there taking a lot of the brunt of the run blocking. Poor explanation, but I think most can figure it out. Kudos to D line too. Really only one true D tackle. Malik played great though. Hughes had his moments, but was keyed on many times. Hughes played with a lot of intensity in bowl game.

I agree with you! There are sometimes I get frustrated watching the defense play but then I remember how young we are and the lack of depth we have. Wilcox did a great job and I am sure it will get even better.

Right on Jmoore, we all knew with the fulmer and lane debacle it probably wont be till Dooleys 3rd season till we see flashes of a dominant D line. Funny as soon as the first snap of this year we all forget. Me included at times

I don't have many complaints for the D. The secondary was by far the weakest IMO. I expected much better. AJ Green, J. Jones, and Alshon Jeffrey lit us up. Basically, if we played against a good receiver, they could expect to have a career night.

Ben Martin coming off his medical redshirt will be a beast next year imo. The only positive of his injury will be 2 years of Chuck Smith.

Last year, we were 17th in the nation in total defense. This year, we weren't in the top half of FBS in that category.

We did not have the same kind of talent either. We still got ran over by Ole Miss and VT. I would like to see what Wilcox could have accomplished with a Dennis Rogan and Eric Berry in the secondary much less a bigger defensive line.

Ole Miss won 9 games and Virginia Tech won 11 last year. This year, UT's defense got shredded by a 4-8 UAB team and a Georgia team that couldn't beat Colorado and finished with a losing season.

Im sure losing E Berry, D Williams, R Mccoy, D Rogan, and W Brown had nothing to do with that. Then to top it off, Martin and Walls have season ending injuries to an already thin d-line.

Wouldn't get too caught up in stats from 2 defenses with different personnel, and different schedules in trying to prove a point either way.

Monte wasn't here long enough to get a gauge. Wilcox hasn't been either.

There is no room on this board for common sense and logic.

Absolutely. Monte also had the best defensive player in the SEC to work with. So comparing the two is pointless.

You can't use actual data to proove a point.

it's not actually data, it's a statistic. While made up of data, it doesn't actually prove anything. But it is a good contributing factor in a supposition, or statement of likelihood.

Also moving M Jackson to DT Mid season, Moving Waggoner to CB, Starting Brewer after not playing ball for years. A new DC and coaching staff... I dont understand why we did not complete the NC.....:)

I'm guessing that has nothing to do with this team not having 2 1st round draft picks in Eric Berry & Dan Williams, having a solid CB in Dennis Rogan, having a solid LB in Rico McCoy, & actual serviceable DT's.

This years team had a OL turned DT starting in a few games, a walk-on DT that weighed less than 260, a 23 yr old True Freshmen SS that had'nt played football in 4 years, 2 1st year starters at CB, a S turned CB getting meaningful snaps, having 2 of the best DL go down in fall practice with season ending injuries. A DE turned DT mid-season.

Yea let's just forget about all of that & just say Tennessee had 1st round draft picks all across the board.

J it's useless to even try with him... He has a continuous flow of urine into his Corn Flakes... My only wish is that the ignore function worked on quotes...
