Deferring to 2nd half is stupid

I am not very hopeful after getting dominated by Missouri last week.

If the Vols pull off the upset, they will end up 9-3 with a win over Georgia late in the season at home, but not good all season on the road.
I would say a nice Florida bowl game would be in order. What bowl would you predict?

After looking over the top 25, I have no idea. Arizona stands out as an interesting bowl matchup...I guess.
I would like the Orange bowl. I think with Sampson, Milton, and Squirrel we have a chance at home. Vegas has the bulldogs by 10. That means that they believe we win, even its by 1.

Unfortunately for Joe it takes a lot more than an elite arm to score at will. If all you needed was arm talent he'd be undefeated as a starter. I would gladly trade some of his arm talent for some more talent between the ears.
He also doesn't have the receiving corps he needs. Wouldn't it be ironic if he becomes one of the GOATs in the NFL?

That's it.

If I was CJH and I won the toss Saturday, I am taking the ball. This offense needs to score as often as possible, and you can't risk even a single possession.

Take the ball coach Heup, if by some wild chance you are reading VN these days.

Get the ball and go out there and punch UGA's defensive front right in the mouth while our O-line is fresh. Set the tone and hopefully get some points on the board, but whatever you do, don't defer to the 2nd half.

I know a bunch of ya'll will disagree, but I remember when no one did that. It was common sense back then. You win the toss, you take the ball.

It happened “back then” cause you didn’t have a choice to defer.

I have always thought you should defer.

If the game is tied/close at halftime, you want the ball to start the 2nd half.

If you are ahead at halftime, obviously not having the opening kickoff didn't prove problematic and you have the opportunity to establish momentum in the 2nd half.

If you are behind at halftime, you want the ball.

Exactly. It's about momentum, and how you can use it either way coming out of the half.

I like your mentality M4e.

I'm more cautious this time.
So you believe that coach Heupel has no chance at Home. I respect your opinion but I believe we win this one. The Dawgs had some struggles this year. Gamecocks early. Auburn first half. I don't count the gators, wildcats, or tigers. Ole miss was a fluke. Bama destroys them in Atlanta.

$25 to St. Jude if UGA wins?

I knew some of yall would disagree, and you make some valid points. I still would like to see those percentages. Either way, I would take the ball first against Georgia this weekend.

I want as many chances as possible with the ball, and in my mind the numbers would seem to tend towards the team getting the ball first would likely get 1 or more possessions than the other team.

That's right. You can gain momentum in either phase of the game. Hopefully, the Vols get a TD on the opening kickoff of either half. A punt return would be amazing, and so would a fake punt.

If I was CJH I would throw it all at them, and I would have the team ready to die out there Saturday. It's the only way to win this game.

They usually defer to get the crowd going. The crowd can let loose when the opponent is on the field. Trying to set the tone for the entire game.

Yeah, well 98% of the coaches agree with me.

Learn the rules and when changes were made before you make dumbass comments.
And Georgia beats 98% of the teams they play genius. Time to try something different and maybe WIN a big game for once this year.

What's with you anyway? Kinda aggressive IMO.

No, I definitely don't think the Vols have no chance at all. I think they have a chance, but not that great of one. To win, the Vols need to play lights out. They need to play a near perfect game and not get dominated for sure.

Heupel wants to control the game at the end of the half and at the first of the half.
