You tell 'em coach!!That's it.
If I was CJH and I won the toss Saturday, I am taking the ball. This offense needs to score as often as possible, and you can't risk even a single possession.
Take the ball coach Heup, if by some wild chance you are reading VN these days.
Get the ball and go out there and punch UGA's defensive front right in the mouth while our O-line is fresh. Set the tone and hopefully get some points on the board, but whatever you do, don't defer to the 2nd half.
I know a bunch of ya'll will disagree, but I remember when no one did that. It was common sense back then. You win the toss, you take the ball.
Well, thanks for saying, but I should have used more tact and had a better understanding of the history of the rules. This is the way to go and Kirby has even said that part of UGA's success is because they score early. ie their game plan relies on being up by a TD or a FG and the opposing team feeling the pressure of catching up.
The first few possessions are scripted to catch the opposing team off guard and either leading at the half or having the momentum at the half. If UGA is trailing at the half, Kirby will make an adjustment the opposing coach has yet to see that day and THAT should be more effective than what they had been doing. His point was that he evolves pushes a new narrative at the half and that's why UGA can come from behind at the half or extend the lead they have at half time.
Anyway... other's may disagree with you, but when it comes to UGA or Kirby, Kirby wouldn't disagree with you. When UGA defers, Kirby says it's a calculated risk. Anyway, good for you for mentioning it as a topic of discussion, because it's highly relevant when playing UGA.
Because it makes too much sense to try to "double up" possessions at the end of the half and after halftime. We almost pulled it off against Mizzou if it weren't for that fumble, and that absolutely changed the game. Imagine if we came out of halftime leading 14-10 and getting the ball back instead of being down 13-7. That was a huge swing and absolutely destroyed our momentum.
I do live a crappy sad existence. I never thought I would get caught. You aren't funny, clever, or tricking anyone. But if it's how you get your rocks off have fun. Seems like a crappy sad existence.
Coaches refer to it as ‘the middle 8’. Amazing how many games are won/loss in the middle 8. Steal points to end the half, first drive of 2nd half sets the tone to finish games. That's it.

You take the ball maybe more if you have a team like year with high confidence of scoring on first possession. This year, not so much. There's a reason college and NFL teams take the second half kick. I'm sure that data supports an early first possession score is not as valuable as having momentum going into halftime and then impact trajectory of second half right out of the gateThat's it.
