10 regular season wins would definitely give me that '22 feeling. maybe not AS special because that one came out of nowhere. but I would definitely feel like we took a great step forward and the system is working, and we can get better.

9 wins, I am still probably happy, depending on what gives us those 3 losses. close losses, and I would still feel good. bad losses, and I am not happy.

I’m going to take the Michigan stance. I don’t care what our record is, as long as we don’t lose to anybody.

Beating Florida by 40pts, Beating Bama by 48pts, Beating GA by 32 pts, no matter what else happens during the season.

In ESPN’s preseason power rankings from Monday, the Vols have moved up one spot again to No. 14 in the rankings.

"Tennessee’s 27 wins in three seasons under Josh Heupel represents the program’s best three-year run since Vols won 28 games from 2002 to ’04"

Heather Dinich of ESPN released her college football playoff predictions and included her "first four out" teams, which is where the Volunteers fell on the list. In fact, it was nothing but SEC teams on this list. LSU, Missouri, Tennessee and Oklahoma were all labeled first four out teams.

"The Vols will show improvement from a year ago, but they will be stuck on the bubble because of road losses to Oklahoma and Georgia and a possible home loss to Alabama.

Deserves a thread. Great post, boo… 👏

Yes they do. Georgia and Ohio State have national championship or bust expectations every season. Same with Bama when Saban was there.

If Nico is a generational QB then our expectations should be the same. It's national championship or bust. The funny thing is if you listened to all the interviews with the players this year during media day they were saying the same thing. Our team expects to win the national title this year or it'll be a huge disappointment to them. As fans we should hold the same expectations.
The players are supposed to believe they can win. And setting goals like the National Championship are great and ACHIEVABLE goals.

But when YOU add “or bust” to the equation 🙄.

No.

Anything less than a playoff spot will be a failure.

If that happens, CJH needs to be looking at the clock. It’s unfortunate but, the major success he had in year two set a very high president!
FULMER WOULD HAVE BEEN FIRED BY 2023 had he taken over for Pruitt.

His time is DONE.
Get over it!!

Unless CJH does worse than 8-4, there won't be a serious conversation regarding him being on the hot seat

I would consider the first 5 listed all as being a successful season, so I'll go with the Natty and set the bar high.

Tired of being pessimistic. This team is loaded - not quite Bama or UGA loaded, but more loaded then they have been in a long time. Coach Bronn is drinking the Kool-Aid.

For all intensive porpoises I don't agree with you. Irregardless, it's a moot point because CJH isn't going anywhere. It's a doggy dog world in the SEC. I could care less about people that say he has to make the playoffs this year or his seat gets warm. People that say these things tongue and cheek lose all credibility. The statue of limitations for him not making the playoffs has not expired yet.

I’m hearing that depth along the D line might be an issue for you guys. Is that a legit concern or are people just nitpicking trying to find any weakness they can?

Update here. We are continuing to have injury issues here. Most of them seem to be the type of injuries that can linger if not given proper time to heal, so we’ll see. Xzavier McCloud has an undisclosed injury, not sure what that means. He is the transfer we added from South Carolina, and is expected to be a big part of our D-line rotation.

Anyway, this is absolutely becoming an area of concern for us. They keep info on these things kinda close to the chest as much as possible, but I’m certainly concerned about it. Especially on the interior of our D-line.

I'm not selling my stock in Heupel at 9-3 but it would be a bit of a disappointment. 10-2 would almost assuredly mean playoff birth so that's where I'm at.

Just wanted to ask a question @RDU VOL#14 How does the TN O-line look in your opinion? I think you guys look pretty good on the O-line, but just wanted some opinions of Vols fans.

This could be a very big deal as far as our game against one another is played out. If we can’t stifle y’all’s run game and get pressure on Nico it’s very possible you guys may put up big points on us.

In the past, not so much last season, we’ve had a player or two on the interior that demanded double teams. This opened up things for others. You know the whole “if there is two on me, somebody’s free” deal.

The truth is that if you guys can handle our defensive front well it will very possibly be a close game. Just wanting to hear your opinion, or the opinion of other knowledgeable Vols.

…oh boy. Now ya done it… 😉🤙🏼

d4h incoming…
🤣😂🤣 Doesn’t he represent and speak for all of Volnation? He is so self-assured that I just assumed he does!

Seriously though, I should have also asked you directly in my post. What’s your opinion?

I think we have a pretty solid starting 5. I think there are question marks beyond that though. I think our guys certainly look the part more than we have in a long time, but there is a lack of experience. There are 2 very unsung heroes in the Heupel offense, that’s Center Cooper Mays and it’s going to be the Tight End position . Mays is the straw that stirs the drink, we saw that last yearwhen he was out early last season. Once he returned we got back to moving at a faster pace that CJH likes to go. The TE position allows us to be the most versatile bc we don’t like to sub, so whether it’s the Notre Dame transfer Staes, Ethan Davis or the Bama transfer Kitselman we need them to step up . Lance Heard the 5 star transfer from LSU should start from day 1 now that he’s getting into game shape.

Yeah, I agree 100% about Mays. I absolutely remember that last season. Thanks for the response. 👍

You two are giving me a BVS trigger. I. Will. Not. Believe!

…it’s hurts so bad when we skin our knee.

We’ve got options behind him this year that would be better prepared to step up, imo. Having Heard come in to solidify unquestionably the back side is comforting.

That’s a comforting thing for you guys. We’ve got a new starter at center in Jared Wilson, and I’ve heard great things about him. Although, he has been battling injuries lately and Tate Ratledge, probably our best guard and lineman, has handled most snaps during fall camp.

We aren’t wanting for talent on the O-line, but as you know center is a very important position. I’m a bit concerned that we had to pull Ratledge to cover center in Wilson’s absence. Looks like Wilson is a go for week 1, but our depth there isn’t where I’d like it to be.
