DEI = Racism

What does that mean? Do you think a Black person can win a country music award without it being a result of "DEI" and, if so, why can't Beyoncé?

You just stated exactly why she won. It’s not important just laughable. Everyone knows those awards are horses**** anyway and this just further confirms it.

Target Hit With Class Action Lawsuit Claiming They Misled Investors Over DEI Policies

Target was hit with a class action lawsuit on Friday after shareholders alleged the national retailer misled investors about the risks of its DEI initiatives, which led to consumer boycotts and its stock price to tank.

The class action suit, led by the City of Riviera Beach Police Pension Fund, alleges that Target misused investor funds for “political and social goals,” and duped investors into buying stock at “artificially inflated prices.” The suit claims that Target made fraudulent public statements regarding the board overseeing the risks of its DEI initiatives, and the executives and board misled investors about the risks those programs posed.

Target’s stock price plummeted 22% on Nov. 20, 2024, destroying nearly $16 billion in market cap in a single day after the retailer reported disappointing earnings. The dive in prices came after Target became embroiled in a nationwide controversy surrounding its DEI and Pride initiatives.

The lawsuit claims that Target’s board only oversaw the risks of not adopting DEI and ESG initiatives, and was only concerned with backlash from the left. The left-wing backlash Target was concerned with was not authentic, the suit alleges, and was instead associated with nonprofit “stakeholders” that the store was actively working with to adopt DEI mandates which were detrimental to the business. The suit claims that the so-called risks posed by these nonprofits was little more than a pretext to establish DEI mandates in the first place.

Ok, those familiar with the law in this particular nitch........

Does this case have legs? How likely is it to be successful?

If Jay-Z put out a country album and won like Beyonce did. Would you put Jay-Z on the same level as a "black" country artist as Charley Pride or even Darius Rucker?

You're suspicious because a Black person won an award for a country album?
I'm suspicious because it wasn't even country music, but neither is about 90% of what's playing on country radio today.

I'm a huge music guy with a very diverse taste in music.

Edit to add: I do have very strong feeling against mindless pop music though......... Drives me crazy.

Yeah no way a Black person could honestly win a country music award, right?
Eh, honestly Shaboozey's album is better, and more country while not real country music. But it's pop country. There's meaning behind the songs...... Much more relatable to me anyway.

I would really like to see him win more awards.

Have you no Charley Pride?

Came here just to say what you said.

I grew up listening to Charlie Pride in the 70s.

I‘m saddened to learn five decades later he was only succcesful because of his race rather than his talent, and he likely took the place of a more deserving white country singer.

Equating Jay-Z‘s hip-hop crossing over to country with Beyoncé’s pop/R&B doing the same is a bit of a stretch...two completely different genres.

That said, Ray Charles crossed over from R&B to country before half this place was born.

I really had no idea what kind of music he or Beyonce sang!🤣🤷‍♂️

The music of a Ray Charles at that time crossing to country isn't that big of stretch looking back on it today.

A little different than the scenario being debated here.

But this got me thinking so I responded.

Darius Rucker was accepted as an AA from a different genre crossing over to country...... And he was very successful doing it.

Why do we think he was accepted and Beyonce wasn't?

My answer:

Probably a few factors, one is Beyonce not really embracing the culture....... The other to a lesser degree is Beyonce is female. And women seem to have a harder time in country music. Could it also be the genre? Rucker was soft rock so maybe an easier crossover relatability because the fan bases overlapped some.

Just thought it was an interesting thing to think through........... Sorry for introducing all of you to my internal thought process......

My mind scares me sometimes. You wouldn't believe the rabbit holes I go down on long nights when I can't go to sleep with racing thoughts!

Interesting example.

Charles never really embraced the culture, but his songwriting and even his delivery want really all that different from country artists of his time. He was no frills all music.

Not embracing the culture, I think that’s the gripe with Beyoncé’s critics.

Her entire career has been in the R&B/pop space. She does one country album and wins awards.

I’m sure there were many who felt she didn’t pay her dues, and others who felt like she should stay in her lane.

Disagree with saying he never embraced the culture.

Those receipts are everywhere.

Ray Charles loved country music before he loved the blues.

Fair but have you examined the lyrical content of modern mainstream country music winning awards prior to this?
