Deion Intro Speech

Ain't gonna be no hoodies, ain't gonna be no earrings, ain't gonna be no caps....while he's donning a cap.
I'm pretty sure Deion loves him some bling
Its gonna be a little hard to hear a tough discipline message from a guy that tended to act like rules didn't apply to him as a player. Had a reputation for skipping team meetings at Dallas and being allowed to get away with it because of his talent. However, I cant say it's the wrong message to a team with years of losing records. Obviously changes are needed. Just dont know if he's the right messenger given his past

I was tough on my son when I coached him and taught him in 8th grade social studies, just so nobody could say that he got special treatment. The coaching part didn't go so well, but there were no problems with him in the classroom or with his peers. I can live with that.
Exactly. He gets to hit lead-off and he plays SS or pitcher (typical coaches kid lol) but that’s because he’s the most consistent hitter and fielder I’ve had in 3 seasons. But he knows those “perks” come with certain responsibilities and he’s going to hear about it when he’s not tending to his responsibilities. He went through a hitting slump for a few games and he got bumped down the lineup; first game of new batting order he put his helmet on and tried to run out to the plate first and I’m like get your ass back, you’re not leading off. Why? Cause you haven’t gotten a hit in 2 games son we only get 10 of them 🤣🤣.

Yeah, he went scorched earth on that room. I don’t think it was by design. Looks to me like he read the room wrong. Went in expecting them to rally around him, and you could have heard a mouse fart in there.

So…we’ll see where it goes from here. Good news is, it can’t get much worse.

So it’s a disagreement with his management style moreso than his plan of action.

That’s fair, Deion is not for everyone.

Do you think it's professional to handle an intro team meeting this way? Have you seen one close to being handled in this way?

I just got around to watching this and haven’t read all the comments. But my take is that was not a great way to start his tenure.

1- it was a very self centered event. Rolling in with an entourage made his remarks look staged and cheap, like he was there for a show

2- nothing wrong with expecting excellence and nothing wrong with messaging expectations, but there are much more effective ways to do it. Just one alternate would be to lay out a framework of what he thinks excellence looks like, tell them they will see it from me and my staff, and work with you to get you where we want you to be. Will be much more effective than the fear approach.

3- if he doesn’t want to do NIL wnd wants to sell the NFL, things are going to be exponentially more difficult to turn around

4- did I mention the entire production seemed to be about him and not the team? I could be the hardest worker on that team and I’d probably be looking at my options to leave before the first team meeting.

Because he pretty much put down the talent level in front of him in a condescending way. I'm all for hard coaching but I leave that meeting wondering what people been saying about me behind closed doors instead of saying things like everyone has a clean slate.

You can clutch your pearls over Deion’s management style, but I had no issue whatsoever with his message.

And yes, I’ve participated in corporate meetings, following mergers, where senior leadership has given a very similar message, albeit with a different delivery.

Whether you or I thought he was professional is irrelevant. If nothing else it was completely on-brand for Deion.

The picture is becoming clearer.

Yeah, I’ve been in a “YFG Meeting” or two in my day. But none of them featured no fewer than four cameras focused on the speaker. Must be a football thing.

Boulder is different. Beautiful area, very earthy in regards to the people.
My husband had been out there (Boulder) for work and he said not to worry much about the women they were very granola with piercings (not his bag).. he says women in Utah- Salt Lake City are gorgeous.. (no, he wasn’t looking at the Mormons) 😂

What are you talking about? You think that was a message for the public?

These guys are mostly 18-21 y/o. Most aren't going to the NFL or getting an NIL deal.

I'm all for treating practice like a boot camp and possibly running the weak off but have a little decorum.

Pretty sure the message would have been the same in private, if not more harsh.

Not gonna lie. I hope he does well and Colorado becomes playoff contenders(give them 2 years and I think they will be winning big) I think he will pull a lot of talent in via transfer portal this year.

More I look at it, more I think he made a mistake with this entry / speech / etc.

Idk. The whole “no hoodies, no earrings, no cell phones” etc part I can dig. Despite what the woke world will have everyone believe, there are alot of young men yearning for strong male leadership. He seems to be offering that angle.

But I am not totally sure about him. I mean if you work your ass off, give everything you have, buy into his message, etc but in the end aren’t talented enough, is he running you off? Is it 100% about winning?

Deion is all about the green

That's probably true up to a point. Apparently, corruption at JSU, along with lies, and having to use his own money to provide better locker rooms, house and feed his team at post season games, plus more was a factor in his leaving. Here's some of the reasons he left.

I don't know about the " I'm coming/ coach prime" thing...Deion has always been about marketing his image..Did he do a great job and Jackson State, heck yeah he did.
Seems the phrase " we're coming" would be more appropriate.
Tell the world " we're coming"
Lastly he's walking into a program that's been giving up 45+ a game. Take a look at the 2023 schedule.....it will not be an easy job to resurrect.

Exactly
He’s a hypocrite
His son wears earrings
You’re going to find out he’s all about himself and his son. He says that stuff trying to create an image but look at his life and you see the complete opposite. Look at his college days, look at his professional career and you’ll see the real picture. He’s low life.

How many players can teams actually sign in this class? Seems like Colorado may have more than the normal attrition coming.

85 cap is the only number he has to worry about. He can totally revamp his roster this week if he wants to.

I liked him better before watching the meeting than I do now, we've saw first hand how different coaches can produce vastly different results with the same kids, it sounded to me like he blamed the players for Colorado's poor performance, Id think you would see for yourself what you have before taking them to the woodshed, let alone what he said about his son.
