Deion Intro Speech

I frankly think his approach was somewhat tacky especially with the way he did it in front of the camera then started talking about it wasn't for television or something of the sort. It's one thing to have tough and real conversations but another to demean the kids while trying to be a one man infomercial because you played a weak schedule at the FCS level.

Also he is potentially admitting recruiting violations on camera when he admits he's bringing JSU players while he's a Colorado coach still coaching at JSU. Technically you can't recruit players still part of another program at least out loud.

You’re free to disagree with the approach and/or delivery. I’ve got reservations about Deion competing against P5 competition with comparable or better talent week in and week out.

But if you’re in the camp with others here who think his message about making roster changes was all sizzle and no steak, you’ll likely be proven wrong sooner than later.

And I stopped caring about recruiting violations around the same time the NCAA stopped caring about recruiting violations. Next time a school gets hit with serious sanctions will be the first time in a very long time.

He will always be blunt and he is not afraid to hurt feelings, but he is taking it a bit too far imo. You can say everything he said but it works a lot better if you balance it with some semblance of believing that they are capable of hitting his standard. The only part of all this that may blow up in his face is actinglike none of those guys are worth his time from the beginning. He may have to rebuild his whole team frkm scratch, which you can't do in one recruiting cycle.

Colorado was 1-11.

Clearly some of those kids aren’t worth his time.

My son would disagree with you 🤣. I make him cry once a game in 5-6 yr old coach pitch I’m so hard on him. I'm sure he wishes someone else would coach him.
I was tough on my son when I coached him and taught him in 8th grade social studies, just so nobody could say that he got special treatment. The coaching part didn't go so well, but there were no problems with him in the classroom or with his peers. I can live with that.

My problem isn't the threat of clearing out dead weight. It's not even that he said it in "public". It's that he threw in that ******** "I love this institution, yada yada yada" ********. If you're honest, be all the way honest. Keep it a buck. You didn't know this place from the next until they called out for you offering the money. Is that tough talk gonna go to his assistants, too? Does he have the capital of respect in the business for that to be the case? He's talking to these guys like Saban talks to his guys but Saban has earned that respect from EVERYONE in the game because he was the most detail oriented coach in college football for 20 years. Prime doesn't have that experience. All he has is an experiment that he hasn't finished, and promises left unfulfilled. You can have a showman/A-type as a head coach at this level but the substance is who they surround themselves with. Somebody has to do some actual coaching or it's going to fail hilariously.

Personally I wouldn’t say things exactly like that…….but I’m not a professional coach.

However when you put it straight like that, some come ready to work, some come ready to leave, some come ready to make excuses, some come ready to hear and learn………you know exactly what you got and who you got to work it with……..quickly.

He will weed out what doesn’t belong, keep what can possibly work, and work with what is working………while making room for talent.

Again I’m no paid coach, I also don’t know the whole situation……..but we know it’s a broken situation. Good way to try and fix it sooner rather than later is getting rid of the bad, the unwilling, the cancer, the untalented quickly and starting over……..with whatever you got left (especially with the portal and his name has weight).

This exactly. Deion was never taking the long view, and CU is obviously a broken program badly in need of major surgery. He cut to the chase as only he can, and we'll see what happens when the chips fall. I'm not betting against him.

I actually find Coach Prime entertaining and a good coach. Good coaches are honest with their players and don’t lie to them. He flat out told them to either get ready to put in work or leave. He also told them he was bringing players with him including his son that’s QB.
I want to see how he does when he doesn’t have the best players. His team at JSU was very talented and playing against less talented teams on a regular basis. I think he’ll do a good job and Boulder is a beautiful town, recruiting shouldn’t be as difficult as it has for them in the past

I agree, and I don't disagree with his bluntness and high standards. I also agree that a good number of those guys won't probably meet his standards. I just think you can push guys to meet your high standards and be honest with them when they aren't meeting them, while also doing your job as a coach and coaching them up to that point. He chose to go in telling these guys that he already assumes they aren't worth his time instead of telling them that they need to prove it and believing that they may be capable. What QB is going to want to stay on that roster after he went into the first meeting telling them his son is going to be the QB? What upperclassman is going to want to stay on that team when he has already told them to hit the portal because he's bringing HIS players in?

If he goes into year one completely destroying the morale of the players that are already there, he will be starting his rebuild with half a team. Good luck with that.

Was he destroying morale or establishing expectations?

You can’t deny that CU needed a complete refresh.

Time will tell if Deion is the right fit.

You're right. I just wonder if he was brutally honest to the point that it will hurt his rebuild more than help it. Time will tell.

No, I don't disagree about him planning to make roster changes but I disagree with the delivery in front of the camera. Talking about players being on a list. It's the most insulting way to handle it. You don't have any friends if it goes sideways based on how you've treated people. And I'm not sure he has 11 players on JSU's roster that can compete at this level. They don't even play the best teams in the bowl subdivision.

So it’s a disagreement with his management style moreso than his plan of action.

That’s fair, Deion is not for everyone.

The only issue I could see coming up is what if they guys coming are no better on the field than what he has.

That would make him look like a damn fool would it not?

I just got around to watching this and haven’t read all the comments. But my take is that was not a great way to start his tenure.

1- it was a very self centered event. Rolling in with an entourage made his remarks look staged and cheap, like he was there for a show

2- nothing wrong with expecting excellence and nothing wrong with messaging expectations, but there are much more effective ways to do it. Just one alternate would be to lay out a framework of what he thinks excellence looks like, tell them they will see it from me and my staff, and work with you to get you where we want you to be. Will be much more effective than the fear approach.

3- if he doesn’t want to do NIL wnd wants to sell the NFL, things are going to be exponentially more difficult to turn around

4- did I mention the entire production seemed to be about him and not the team? I could be the hardest worker on that team and I’d probably be looking at my options to leave before the first team meeting.

fair point
Context was different. Pruitt was making excuses for a loss, blaming players, taking no responsibility himself. Prime is looking at team's past performance when he arrives and making assessment of needed changes. Not the same at all.
