Longtime Sen. Dianne Feinstein is showing clear signs of cognitive decline, according to a new report, leaving her colleagues in Congress scrambling for ways to persuade her to retire before her term expires in 2024.

“It’s bad, and it’s getting worse,” one Democratic senator told the San Francisco Chronicle, which also reported that a member of California’s congressional delegation who has known Feinstein (D-Calif.) for 15 years recently had to reintroduce themselves to her repeatedly over a discussion lasting several hours.

The Chronicle report, which cited four of Feinstein’s Senate colleagues and three former staffers as well as the House member, indicated that the 88-year-old’s memory is rapidly deteriorating and her staff does much of her work.

Put a max age on their service. Tie it to retirement age

I dont see it as a mandatory thing. Some have no issues, some are healthy until they are not - and some of course, never had any business there in the first place lol

Should be handled on a case by case I think. Also, as medicine gets better, lifespans get longer. Think most problems are due to age and more do to length of service. I am not for lifetime politicians (neither were our founders).

I think there were rumors of this a couple of years ago.

The problem is, Newsom is going to nominate someone far, far, far worse if she does resign or retire.
Yep. Even though she is from California, she has always been somewhat moderate and willing to compromise. Chuck Grassley is also 88 and he needs to go as well. These people are like the queen and will never leave until they die.

Yup, I like a point system. Give each person a lifetime limit of like 20 „points“. Each term in eachboffice costs a certain number or „points“. House Seat for 2 years or a political position requiring Senate confirmation costs two points. A six year Senate Term costs five points. You must have at least five remaining points to qualify for your first term as President or VP with a second term allowed at the approval of the electorate. Once your points are gone, you are forced to retire

I don't know about moderate or willing to compromise...

However, she will at least listen to the arguments made and counter them. I can respect her for that honestly.

She alway was a leftist idiot. Now she’s a leftist idiot with dementia.

“If I could have gotten 51 votes in the Senate of the United States for an outright ban, picking up every one of them… ‘Mr. and Mrs. America, turn ’em all in,’ I would have done it.” – Dianne Feinstein

That's why I keep saying Congressional term limits.

12 years total. Six House terms or two Senate terms or three House and one Senate term.

End of story
I doubt you'd find two people that would disagree with you. Unfortunately, not one politician would agree with you, and they are the ones we elect. Perpetually elected politicians.

I'd go 6 (House) and 3 (Senate) for 12 and 18. There is some value in institutional knowledge in the Senate; particularly for committee leadership.

Either way - there are few arguments against term limits.
