We put the NCAA on a tightrope, because we did everything an "intend to be clean" program could have done after the misdeeds were discovered. If they had come down too hard, they would have removed any incentive for future rulebreakers to do anything except deny, deter, resist and hide. The NCAA had to leave this with some incentive to self-report and be good citizens.
Another good point. Tennessee fired everyone involved, shipped out all kids that might have been involved, and even cut Fulmer loose bc he should’ve known what was going on. They self reported and followed through on getting all the filth out of the program. I’m not sure how it could have been handled better once Plowman was made aware.

Let's say tomorrow, they catch several of Saban's assistants, other members of the football staff, and several members of the athletic department doing the exact thing while the AD/Saban is asleep at the wheel. Bama admits they are wrong and fire the people caught. Would we be OK with no postseason ban for Bama?
Of course not. We would be talking about Bama the way Clemson fans are talking about us.

It’s because all these yahoos were pontificating the ultimate doom of this program. Had to be a thud to their nads that the historically inept Vol administration played it perfectly and aboveboard.

Alabama already had an impermissible benefit scandal while they were already on probation from paying a recruit $200k, and they got away with a minor self imposed penalty. If they're paying pennies to players these days when NIL is right there then they deserve punishment for being idiots.

I think they are asshats with a desire to inflict pain and bitch about a school they don't like.

They have about as much value as a below average message board poster. Pat Forde has the track record of ethical violations that should've rendered him nothing more than an anonymous online dickhead long ago.

Hope you don't mind but .....FYP

For years the cry was the typical NCAA sanctions punished players who did nothing wrong because of rules broken by players who had left the team years ago.

Everyone pretty much approved when the NCAA constitution was changed a couple of years ago so the offending coaches would be the ones to get the brunt of any punishment. That's exactly what happened here.

Some school had to be first under these new rules and it just happened to be Tennessee.

Giving us a bowl ban is exactly punishing players and staff that had nothing to do with it and they have said they do not want to do that but there is always going to be a sour grape.

As LAVol (who is connected) said, 17 of the L1 violations were against individuals. There was 1 against the institution. It wasn’t as bad as the media wants to portray.

If the roles were reversed and it was Bama, UGA, UF in our place, how many of us would be satisfied with scholly and visit reductions as their punishment?

We can do all the mental gymnastics we want but we were fortunate this is a different time for the NCAA. There is no precedent for us to receive as light of a sentence as we received...

I don’t really care. A bowl ban isn’t used much anymore. The scholarship reductions won’t end up being much because we’ve already self-imposed 16-18. We took a hit in Heupel’s first year.

All of the individuals involved were punished, and Bama did get punished- they won’t be able to hire Pruitt for 3 more years.

Ole Miss got a 2 year bowl ban and they ultimately found fewer violations there than here. Freeze got a 1 year show cause vs Pruitt's 6.

I'm glad we didn't get a postseason ban but I'm not going to rip a national writer for bringing up those inconsistencies in punishments. Except if the writer was Wolken since he's a d*ck. Other than myself (for bringing up all the Bama grads who worked on the NCAA's Ole Miss investigation), I dont remember anyone here who thought Ole Miss's punishment was excessive...

The level of punishment is likely due to a couple of factors; cooperation and house cleaning.

When everyone from the AD down gets their bags packed...it helps the optics.

Oh, I agree, that helped but let's not kid ourselves - we were looking for any way to get out of Pruitt's deal and Fulmer was a colossal mistake at AD....

The optics look good but we cleaned out dead weight. It's not like we got rid of someone worth a damn in their position...

Considering the NCAA probably won’t exist five years from now, the NCAA and anyone else who wanted to see us punished should be thankful we went along with it peaceably. It’s more than a little absurd that we are being punished under old rules that have already been made legally obsolete. Reader’s Digest condensed version: Dennis Dodd, kindly go *** yourself.

If it got rid of Saban, I'd be very happy with the same outcome.

Even though the number was slightly less, Ole Miss’ violations were more serious. They got hit with lack of institutional control, which UT did not. Obviously, UT cleaned house once the violations became known, which in itself is not lacking institutional control. Ole Miss also had assistants fix ACT scores, and 12 boosters provided money to players. Boosters were well organized. A couple of the assistants gave false information and contacted a witness. Pruitt was hit with 6 years because he had multiple allegations against him. Not even the same. Very distinguishable.

6…his show cause starts now. Nieds and Felton struck deals to start theirs a year ago I believe.
