Department of Government Efficiency - DOGE

That’s my point. Why send Tennessee tax dollars to DC? All they do is waste it. It’s a crazy concept.

A thirded-grader can understand that.
You're wasting your time. This ding-dong has repeatedly equated "funding" with "value". Like you said, we're in a crisis of the skills these agencies supposedly help facilitate. It seems like pouring more funding into that failure is an idiotic thing to do.

I bet old @BeardedVol is in mountains of debt, considering his financial philosophy seems to be "if it don't work, keep spending on it".

No question that it was pushed by the USG in the 70's but when cuban sugar was banned in the 60s manufactures started turning towards CS as an alternative to the higher priced sugar.
as a stop gap. Nixons administration most likely deliberately shifted to widespread use of hfcs so food prices wouldn't be an issue for election

I will never understand why people think sending money to DC is ever a good idea.

Look at what DOGE has uncovered in 2 weeks.

I think it's been proven that consumption of fructose leads to higher liver fat, higher triglycerides and insulin resistance more so than consumption of glucose.

It's not "proven" but yeah, you are basically right. However, those discoveries do not mean we know it's worse. There are also studies that suggest the amount amount of sugar is the cause of all our problems. In other words, if we ate HFCS at the same level we consumed sugar in 1965, we would be fine. We eat 50% more sugar now, and it's not like the rest of the diet is salad.

I seriously, genuinely worry about people with the idea that spending more on broken stuff will improve results. It never does. It's a fundamental issue with how the thing operates almost every time- it's never about being under-resourced. This is why people have so much debt. Something doesn't work, so they spend more and more and more on the same stupid crap in their own lives hoping things will change.

It's very sad. And not understanding that spending does not mean results is just baffling.

You'd lose that bet handily. I paid off my student loans within 3 years of graduation, have never carried a credit card balance over at the end of the month, and the only debt that I carry is a mortgage on my primary residence.

It sounds like you're projecting, maybe you should look into getting some help managing your debt?

And you're suggesting that we couldn't make up those funds if we weren't sending the money to DC first?

Not with Tennessee's current tax structure, no, they couldn't, but I'll bite: let's hear your proposed plan for making up a ~$20 billion shortfall in the budget.

Be specific as to what you'd cut, and what new state taxes or tax increases you'd levy.

Crazy concepts like feeding poor kids who can't afford lunch, and providing funds to educate disabled children?

You are aware that 38% of Tennessee's total budget comes from the Federal government, right?
You are proving my point. Why send money to DC for them to just send it back (after they take some for themselves/USAID)?

Why not keep it here and use it more effectively?

Why? Why? Why do you believe in the federal government so much? Are you employed by them? Are you a teacher? Or were you raised to believe in the fed.gov?

With the elimination of federal mandates tied to the federal funding I don't believe that it would take $20 billion to make up the shortfall. Not to mention we only receive about 1.1 billion from the feds, I have no idea where you get the 20 billion.

So please do explain to the class, how physically assaulting school board members, constitutes "holding them accountable", and how expecting people to get redress through the civil and criminal legal system constitutes "supporting rape".

Please explain what vigilantism and physical assault you're referring to. Loudon county father Scott Smith did neither.

So let's see your revised budget that maintains Tennessee's current tax structure and project funding without using federal dollars.

Show me where we can't.

Take the nutrition mandates, that's almost a 1/2 billion dollar cost right there. I'm certain we could feed school kids better for a crap ton less. We used to.

Lower taxes that allow Tennessee residents/communities to exercise volunteerism as opposed to having our money forcibly taken to fund drag queens reading in kindergarten libraries.

It is so crazy that as the shocking and offensive amount of gov't waste is exposed, there are people who won't defund it until another system has been proven successful--especially as the results of the current system show us among the bottom of education in the developed world, while spending more per students than anyone else.

It's like repeatedly catching your wife in bed with every other guy in town, but refusing to divorce her until the girl next door proposed to you.
