Department of Government Efficiency - DOGE

Yeah but they cannot shift dollars from one area to another and claim they are cutting spending. If they do that they are out on their azzes after the midterms and pretty much guarantee a D presidency in 2028. Congress must cut spending and show proof of it.
you know the goal..let it play out. It isnt going to be 0 this year,
not raising the ceiling would result in shutdown.which is fine by me, but not politically tenable.

Here is govt spending in a nutshell

Obama spent like crazy.

Trump increased Obama level spending at a 4-5x the rate of inflation by 2019

Biden increased spending 60% over 2019 levels

Trump 2.0 wont cut discretionary spending from Biden levels

We're experiencing the "greatest political happening of our lives," I'm told.

As far as the whole context of Trump's political career (meaning since about 2015 with the coup, deep state, assassin attempts, media takeover, lawfare, etc) nothing real else comes to mind in U.S. history, and maybe nothing I can really think of in global history.

But all of that is meaningless right now, he has to right the ship.

I get the point that they probably do have to raise the limit THIS YEAR to avoid a shutdown but they better couple that with actual spending cuts, a true budget (not another continuation) and follow it up next year with more spending cuts and no debt limit increase. They have a hell of a sell job in front of them.

It can't be overnight, I agree but they need to get out in front of it and explain what and how they plan on going about cutting expenditures.
They don't need to talk about it, they need to do it. I seriously doubt they can, even if they wanted to. The dems will obstruct at every turn. They'll filabuster, drag it out.

no doubt..

Look at this fight just to cut these small potatoes.

They promised $1T in cuts, which is deficit, so they are on the clock. If they are playing some word games, then yes, off with their heads, They are going to increase defense, but hopefully they can squeeze out a crap load of efficiency from current budgets.

How much defense spending is necessary before we feel safe or are adequately prepared for legitimate threats?

Well, off to a great start.

He is completely right that it doesn't solve the problem forever, its a constant problem that future Americans must fight.

Defense spending doesn't need to be increased. They could cut the F out of defense and still get a better product with wholesale changes in procurement procedures.
