Derek Chauvin trial

It's nuts that there is legitimate fear that if a single trial outcome doesn't go perfectly there will be widespread violence and destruction.

It's even more nuts that a big chunk of the country, 1/2 of our leaders and almost all of our media will excuse the violence and destruction.
Agreed. It's also absurd that everyone can't agree that this cop screwed up big time. They do so by making excuses for him.

I stumbled upon a crime site called websleuths and been kinda interacting there during this trial. It's a bunch of nattering old hens that delete anything remotely supportive of Chauvin or police. I've strategically tossed some shite grenades in the discussion and it's hilarious to watch reactions. Got to be careful I don't get banned because they have an itchy trigger finger. I've enjoyed getting their collective panties in a wad though.

Cool story, bro.

There's no doubt the cop screwed up. He's guilty but based on the definitions as I understand them it's manslaughter. That's not going to satisfy the mob though. They want murder and nothing less. I actually thought the same myself before the trial started but after watching almost all of it and hearing the attorneys it's manslaughter. If they convict him of murder it will be due to political pressure.

Agreed it's manslaughter

Question for any lawyers: If the prosecution argues facts not in evidence in its closing or rebuttal, is that grounds for reversal or mistrial? In rebuttal, Jerry Blackwell used a graphic which showed 17,000 dots, each representing a day in GF's life. He used the graphic to argue the extreme odds that GF would die from any of his various underlying medical conditions at the exact day and time that GF was being restrained by Chauvin. I thought this was a pretty powerful graphic. However, I understood Blackwell to argue that GF suffered from all of his underlying medical conditions every one of the 17,000 days. No evidence was introduced, by either party, to support this argument. There was much evidence about GF's recent medical history, but no evidence about the vast majority of those 17,000 days, probably as much as 15,000 - 16,000 of those days.

I wouldn't call that evidence. I'd call that a stupid argument.

Not a lawyer though

So its just based on your opinion and you have decided that the judge let in to many witnesses to the alleged murder?
The 9-yr-old kid is a great example. That was nothing but emotional theater. They had plenty of witnesses both expert and non-expert. There was zero reason to put that kid on the stand. The prosecution obviously wanted to do it to appeal to emotions and that is smart but someone (judge or parents) should have said no in my opinion.

Yep. Had to have a meeting about it at work yesterday because I work downtown in a racially charged city right smack dab between the Police Station, a local news station and City Hall. Fun times.

I haven't watched yet. Did the defense object?

Start making the nuclear family a priority again or a society in the inner city where dads are part of their kids lives.

Raise the education level requirement for police and have better psych test for hiring that helps weed out bad cops.

Legalize weed.

Stop privately owned prisons.

Start making requirements for job searches etc to maintain welfare and give bonuses for parents whose children are enrolled in school and passing.

Bring back free mental health care and places for the mentally ill to stay.

That's where I would start.

Legalize all drugs.
