Derrick Ansley, Head Coach

Dude can coach and is a great recruiter. He has a lot of friends in the business who would love to come work for him. And considering the age we live in, and how the SEC has zero AA head coaches, it seems like a smart move. Thoughts?
He should use his leadership skills to fix the defense before he tries to fix the whole team.

The few "proven" coaches who may be looking for a job, don't want this one. How many interviews have been turned down from from UT coaching searches in the past decade ?! A big name coach isn't coming here, I'm not sure what's so hard to understand about that. Tennessee is going to have to roll the dice, stop with the retreads. Identify a promising young coach, go all in, and give him time to rebuild this program.

Might want to wait until the job is available. Gosh give it a rest

Sorry OP. No more first time HFC's, or former D-Coordinators, for this guy.

SMH...if I wasn’t sick with the virus and trying to fill the day I would have stopped reading after the first post. It really is unbelievable what some people actually think...or not think these days! That’s 15 minutes I’m not getting back but I’ll try somehow!

What does his skin color have to do with it? How does that make it a smart move? He’s either the best possible candidate based on his abilities and experience or he isn’t. Making decisions based on race is the definition of racism. Liberal SJW insanity

Calm down man.
It's a legitimate question given the socioeconomic climate in our country's past and present in regards to opportunity.

Affirmative action is by nature...racist.
Because of the racist society we already live in...Don't know if you've been paying attention to the news lately.
It's merely a small counter measurement to a largely presiding white dominated venue.

With that said...
Bama did the right thing waiting for Saban vs hiring Sylvester Croom hahaha.
That was a conversation back then.[/QUOTE

So you acknowledge that affirmative action is racist (which it is) but then say that’s ok because all of society is racist.
It’s easier to say all of society is racist than to honestly look at the root causes within your own culture and address those. That’s based on reality, facts, data, etc

If you want to be honest and address the real causes then I’m with you.
If you want to tell me I’m a racist so it’s ok for you to carry out racist actions against me then your going down a road that will never have the results you want because it isn’t addressing the root causes, will only create more division and involves you doing the things you say you are against.

The move would have been done by now, we got JP for 1 more year, this time next year we will be looking for a young OC and hoping for a home run hire, this is TENNESSEE the GOOD OLD BOYS TELL TENNESSEE WHO TO HIRE, as a 52 year fan i gave up after the JP hire, the GOOD OLD BOYS WONT LET TENNESSEE HIRE A TOP NAME COACH BECAUSE A TOP NAME COACH WOULNT LET THEM RUN THE PROGRAM.

Are you suggesting this due to skin color alone, because he has not proven his ability to coach defensive backs or any other position for that matter

Not sure they waited as much as got a little lucky. During the coaching search that ended with the Saban hire, they had offered and gotten agreement with Rich Rodriguez. The next day, Rich Rod changed his mind and decided to stay at WVA. If that had not happened, AL would have hired Rodriguez and Saban would have stayed at Miami. They even interviewed Schiano for the job.

The below link contains the story of how Saban ended up at AL. Despite it being about AL, it is a pretty good read about the efforts made by their AD to get Saban.

I hope you feel better. Take it seriously and stay on touch with your loved ones.
Merry Christmas.
