Liberty picks up Mercedes with the 22nd pick...to join Tina Charles, Kiah Stokes, Amanda Zahui B., and Kia Vaughn.

All three players drafted. Russell at #22 to NY. She will have to go against Kia Vaughn, Kiah Stokes, and Tina Charles in practices. They are looking to develop a younger post Zaui B didn’t really pan out yet sooooo ...

She could've stayed in college at TN or ANYWHERE else as a grad transfer. She comes from money, so she didn't need a job.

I think it was wise to show her skills and that she could give consistent effort.

Zahui B. was a far better college player and can do everything Mercedes can do, but better. I don't think Mercedes is an upgrade at all. I'll be shocked if she beats her out for a roster spot. Maybe Vaughn, but she's a really good defender and a tough, physical player. Mercedes will really have to earn a spot on this roster.

Welp I guess this is where u take my wait and see approach lol. Also remember Zahui B had injury issues and was out of shape. So if she corrects the weight issue and gets back in some type of shape she may fit in. If not they may ship her off.

I think she was pi__ed at how UT handled Tea Cooper and left to punish the university! JMO

You act like she decided to go overseas to fix her reputation. She went overseas because she already quit Tennessee and already graduated college. Clearly she only was willing to stay at Tennessee so she could play with Te'a, so why would she go to a third school?

Maybe Nared and Russell would have been first-rounders as well if they played overseas instead letting their stock plummet under Hollyball....

She would have to show up at training camp and do a complete 180 miracle in order to not get cut; the W has too much talent available to wait on players to get better. I think if Mercedes is committed to basketball, she may have to take some time overseas and develop her weak spots; but, we'll see.

It's way to early to predict this, but.... Diamond and Gabby could make a great combination down the road. Gabby's greatest skill is passing the ball out to cutters and shooters, and Diamond knows how to do both. She never had anyone as good doing that during her TN years.

Don't be surprised if Russel is traded.

That would debunk some of the posters on here claiming she left because her GIRLFRIEND Te’a Cooper was asked to transfer by the university🙄 I remember people implying she and Te’a were an item smh. Some people just wanna have something to say as my grandma used to
tell me.
