DeShields once again leads the team in turnovers.

Not going to take any cheap shots at Diamond...something's going on there that we must not know about. Maybe it's part long layoff, part mental, part coaching. T'ea Cooper seems to be coming around...and I think diamond will also...in time.

Agree 100%. She is trying to do too much. She just needs to settle down. Love her game when she's on.

I do not mind the bad shooting. That is going to come and go.

The business of passing to unaware teammates.....and the follow on facial expressions......bad business

IMO, the answer is somewhere in between. Half of the bad passes were overthrown and sloppy; on the other hand, at least one of them would have been an easy bucket as Diamond saw a path to the basket open up, but her intended target never cut to the basket. That's where coaching comes in, because there is always a lot of standing around with this offense, and Diamond had the right idea with the pass for a good number turnovers this season, but was not in sync with her teammates.

I don't know about the facial expressions. Personally, I think she suffers from a scorching case of Resting B!tch Face. Even when she smiles, she still looks pissed off.

This might not be quite popular at the moment, but a productive and mentally strong Diamond Deshields would be great for this team. Right now, I agree that she needs to come off the bench until she gets whatever is bothering her straightened out, whether it's a confidence issue or something else that we don't know about.

DeShields has been a massive disappointment, and not just her bad numbers. She clearly doesn't have a great attitude, doesn't have positive body language, and seems a bit of a pretentious player--and we've seen them, the player who was a phenom at a young age and has been told by too many people for too long how great she has, and has come to believe it. I don't get a sense that she has a high respect level for anybody but herself. Play hard, respect your coach and teammates, be humble--start there and the basketball performance might improve.

The injury is to team then. She has Poor body language, lack of leadership and makes poor decisions.

Super summary of what the problem with DD is. Her facial expressions, body language permeate through the arena. She tells you a lot about the coaching. How can an head coach allow for such behavior to exist particularly during the game. That kind of chemistry affects how the rest of the team responds. She need to be thought how to be a leader. If she cannot control or manage that kind on nagative emissions, she need to stay on the bench period.

I saw two things today I really was pleased with:

There was more catch-and-shoot than I have seen all season.

And the players were happy and having fun. Good for them.

Everyone except Diamond, a few time she looked as if she could have cared less.

Well said again. My concern is that if the fans can see this as a problem, why can the head coach. Why put your team in a bad position to please someone that is constantly unhappy. If she's not having fun, she is detrimental to the cohesiveness of the team..

Wait so just cause she's not smiling or happy all the time she's arrogant, not happy, has a bad attitude, doesn't respect the coach and her team mates?

What's interesting is she'll make a bad pass and then make a face like her teammate was the one who screwed up. Something about her body language and facial expressions (or lack thereof) suggests she is unhappy. Could be the injury but there is definitely a lack of cohesion.
perhaps her unhappiness is in the way she's playing. I think she has put too much pressure on herself and it's starting to really get to her. Have you ever had a bad day at work and the harder you tried the more you kept messing up? I kind of equate DD's situation to that.

in agreeing with you, I guess I'm just blind. I've watched them live for a lot of games and I just see a very frustrated young lady, whom I believe is trying too hard to be a team player. I hope she gets straightened out soon. I just haven't seen the arrogance or disrespect that some of you see. Not saying that they're not right, I suppose I might tend to look through orange colored glasses. :peace:

I definitely agree with you. i equally think she's just disappointed in her self and knows she could do better. i'm not seeing any arrogance from her either. at least she's trying to pass and get her team mates involved if she doesn't pass i'm sure she would be called a ball hog.

Oh, Diamond, bad body language!! So selfish!!! blah, blah, blah.

Some athletes just look more aloof on the court; some athletes express frustration differently. Why does everyone want to assume the worse.

From what I have seen, Diamond's biggest problem is that she is trying to hard to be a TEAM player. Sometimes she just needs to make a move and shoot rather than forcing the bad pass. She is in a slump, it happens, I am sure she will have some breakout games this season. But, really what does it help to make negative conjectures about her or other players. The team has not been playing well; there are plenty of tangible problems to dissect.

I thought most of the shots she took yesterday were good shots probably should drop the threes unless she catches and shoots.
Most of the passes were just bad decisions and I blame Holly more than her.
About ten of teams turnovers and four of Diamond's were passes into a crowded post.
Two things we have learned about this season is that Russell doesn't have very good hands for the catch and if she is pushed or bumped the Refs want call it when the other team catches the ball.
I think we have to hit Russell on the pic and roll and the drive and dish. If the pass is not there take the shot.
The stationery pass from the wing to the post is not going to be a successful play very often and if we would stop doing that and stop trying to make the full court pass then the turnovers would drop to 10 to 12.
If you play high risk your going to have a lot of turnovers and Holly seems to want Diamond and the other players to make these plays. It needs to stop and the turnovers will go way down.
I've seen nothing to indicate to me that Diamond is not a team player. She is actually trying to hard to be one and that is where a lot of the turnovers game after game are coming from.

There's NOTHING wrong with DD that playing with better teammates would not cure. Some that can catch a pass, make a shot after DD leads them to an open spot on the court. Example yesterday was KD standing like a statue as DD's pass sailed by. If she just moves a little step forward, that pass is caught and she is set up for a wide open shot. Instead she looks awkward as the ball goes by an DD gets tagged with a TO.

You peeps will see a much better DD when she is lighting up the WNBA with players who have better skills to pair with.

Players don't seem to have defined roles. Holly has done a poor job communicating each player's role. This team passes and moves the ball horribly and they move players horribly. There is very little catch and shoot in this offense. Our entry passes into the posts are poorly executed and conceived- our posts usually have two or more defenders draped all over them. The screens are few or not executed or thought out well. Very few backdoors generated. Very few catch and shoots. Hardly ever see pick and rolls or high low game. Defensively we don't lock down anymore, don't block out well, we lose our man, we don't switch well, we give up back doors too easily, just all out poor coaching. Also, the team seems to play better without Deshields. Very concerned when I learned Deshields wanted to transfer here. A cupcake like Holly can't handle a strong willed opinionated player like Deshields.

It is one thing to have an angry expression directed toward the other team. I am ok this that. Diamond's expressions are directed toward her teammates.

The Magic Johnson no-look and the thread the needle passing was entertaining at the start of the season. But, they have played over 20 games now. By now, Diamond should understand that Mercedes has bad hands. You have to make very safe passes that are easy for her to catch. Diamond's teammates don't cut to the basket to receive the crazy bounce passes thru the traffic. So, for this year, stop trying all the Sports Center highlight reel passing stuff. Bottom line, the turnover number must go down.

they all try crazy passes into traffic, not just DD. Jordan and Alexa in particular. But they have been told to get it to the bigs.... :(

We need better bigs.

WILSON and Coates of USCe don't need passes to be hand delivered into them to catch the ball.

Maybe...part... love life...can be very disruptive on the body and mind...whatever it is I hope she gets control of it...:whistling:

She is the Robert Hubbs of the LVs

This. DD needs to only do conservative things for awhile. Make safe passes, take only open shots, rebound, play sound defense - while coming off the bench. She is not starter quality currently.

Ding ding ding! I like that plan. She can even start. Just needs to be conservative for awhile Try to play a game with only 2-3 turnovers.
