Devrin Young is going to be a surprise this year.

I have to say that DY has looked impressive in the past few practices. His footwork is ridiculously fast. If he brings that level of speed and intensity to the game, he's gonna get more yards than people expect. I hope he has a career year with Team 118 and takes his talent to the next level.

I thought Barnett ran him down from behind one day.

Young has been on the field for his entire college career for a reason. There are a whole lot of guys that would like to take his place and couldn't. He is stronger than than guys think and he is VERY quick out of the gate (lateral quickness like a few have said). He has battled with guys much bigger and won ... over, and over. I would never bet against Young. I watched Sproles in college and I knew what I was watching... I saw the same on Young. I was surprised when he was moved to a receiver position, but if I remember right, off the top of my head, that was when Hunter went down and they had to move a bunch of guys around. That's off the top of my head. If he was bigger he would be a great TE, just not big enough.... but he's like a bowling ball. There is a lot of mass in his low gravity and he has a lot of quickness... not speed, but quickness. Very maneuverable. Very fast out of the gate. He gets a good head start. Much stronger than you think.

We brought in a lot of good recruits who I thought would be better too, right? We'll see but I'm expecting nothing from either one.

Much like we expect out of your post's. Fluff n' feathers. It would please many to see DY leave a cleat mark in that protruding forehead of yours.

When Dooley took over, the specials teams return game was dead, both kick offs and punt returns. So, he got a local guy to help spice it up.

Dooley took over, there must be a catch phrase in there somewhere!

I really am disapointed in both of these developments. We will all see with our very eyes if Josh smith comes out looking like crap like he did last year and little guy continues to trip and fall. Don't understand why Wharton or Evan Berry isn't returning punts or perhaps Malone.

Agree. DY is not SEC caliber. Hope a miracle happens and he proves me wrong.

Some of you "senior members" must be real seniors. Don't be so hateful because you had to walk up hills both ways, gas is not 5 cents a gallon, and Matlock was cancelled. Drink your ensure and just relax.

Devrin Young hasn't been a difference maker his first 3 years with a skeleton roster. Why should anyone expect any different because his feet look good in practice?

1. Two years under Dooley.

2. He has been giving it his all during camp. Source: coaches and teammates.

3. Look at the film.

4. Michael Palardy.

5. Who the eff are you to judge this young man?

I'm sure he's a fine young man and works his tail off in practice. He looked like he was going as hard as he could tonight. These are all great things, but it doesn't change the fact that he simply isn't an SEC caliber player.

Yes. The last two coaching staffs have used Devrin Young extensively across multiple positions (RB, WR, KR, PR) throughout the years simply to appease fans because he is local.

I'm actually ashamed at how stupid some of you are.

The local angle is pretty goofy IMO, but I haven't really sen him be that dynamic on the field up to this point.

He hasn't been dynamic, but you don't need to be dynamic to be worthy of a scholarship, as some here seem to argue he isn't worthy of.

He has been a pretty decent returner, provided valuable backup RB carries when we had injuries a few years back. He was injured most of last year and still managed to catch the first and last TD's of the season.

He wouldn't be on the field, ever, if he was never worth a scholarship or "not an SEC caliber player".

Devrin is a scholarship player. Nothing more, but he certainly isn't worthy of the criticism he receives from the peanut gallery on here from time to time.

We have seen enough of this kid. It's politics....

Two peas in a pecker. One predicted that Sweat was all Vol simply because, well, just because. The other has a lawyer friend (don't we all) that basically said we will suck this year.
Two things - Azzhat #1 says that DY is not SEC caliber - my challenge to Azzhat #1 is to prove it. Simply go knock DY out of his position with the Vols. If Azzhat#1(nationdum) can do better, he should man(boy) up.
As for azzhat #2(feathers and fluff), or fluff n' feathers, or HR puffn stuff can do better, same goes for her/him/it. What say you boys/girls/fluffers,,,oh piss on it, you both know that you are nothing but wart's on a trolls best side. With that being said, I really enjoy reading your nonsense.

Then people shouldn't start threads on how he's gonna surprise this year, because he's likely to not see the field but on PRs and mop up duty.

9th in the SEC last year for kick returns.

I will agree he has some improvement to do.

However, what I've seen this year vs. last year is lights out.

Bookmarks this page if you want to and I'll eat crow later, but DY will be in the top five kick returners this year.
