Well whoopity doo.....I will believe it when I see it. Short leash for the young man if it was me. Too many better options.....
I am disappointed 99% of your threads and posts. Just sayin'.
you have to admit that beattie has raised the bar of stupidity pretty high with this post. The only politics in football is what gives you the best chance to win.
beattie should be stripped of his username so we don't associate idiocy with one of the greatest players to ever wear the orange.
I sure hope so but they would both have short leashes if I was the coach. I got sick of watching Josh smith drop balls and get stripped when the ball was tight in his hands. Physically weak last year.
I hope so. The kid has been a class act at UT, and a team player. He would only be a surprise to people who haven't seen him being a baller the past 3 years.
Anyone who has written him off because we brought in more talent is an idiot.
DY is going to have a great year, and its not a surprise.. its hard work and talent.
Sheeesh ... Either your reading comprehension is zip! zero! zed! or you know the truth and choose to ignore it. You KNOW freshman Josh Smith had two injuries last year, one to hand and one to leg. Even with leg injury he consistently ran great routes and was open. As to being stripped of a ball "tight" in his hands, that statement is just plain goofy knowing he's got a hand injury.
So then, why was he playing? He was the best available at the time, either as a player rotating in for a gassed teammate, or simply because coaches know he indeed CAN get past defenders and gave Tennessee the best chance to advance the LOS. Injured hand, gimp leg, and all .. and a freshman. As for 'short leash' EVERY PLAYER on the team has that. Play your position better than the next man on the depth chart or get bumped down by a guy playing better ball.
People forget that Dooley several times rushed 11 on punts with nobody back due to not having ANYONE that could catch (even fair catch) a punt...
This thread is absurd and the OP has no clue what he's talking about. Devrin Young was recruited here has a RB/athlete under Derrick dooley. When DY was a freshmen, he broke his collarbone putting him out of workouts and missing almost all of the season. Sophomore year comes and he earns a backup tailback spot - has a decent year but maily fumbles the ball against MI ST. Junior year comes he breaks his wrist, missing more workout time and practice.
Someone who was injured severly in two seasons is listed as "Ranks fourth in career kickoff return yards with 1,263; Next on the list: #3 Corey Larkins (1,307)"
^ That's a pretty good stat for only being on the team for "politics".
If coaches are impressed with Devrin and his level of play - expect him to make a splash this year. Its not just coach speak.
"To be fair?" I'd suggest that to be fair you should watch past vids on DY and you'll see four very positive aspects he possesses. He's 1-Very fast, 2-Really quick on his feet, 3-He displays excellent overall vision of the playing field and, oh yeah, 4-He tends to safely catch the ball. On top of that he's a senior, gets Butch's system and he's playing on a better team than he did previously. Let's figure Butch'll put the best man in that critical spot. Is that fair?:clapping:To be fair he is ranked so high because he has played on some of the worst defensive teams in vol history. Lots of opportunities that many returners never had on decent to good vol teams. That being said I have no idea if he is good enough or not. Don't really care as long as the best returners are on the field whomever they may be.

Young has great quickness, excellent speed and is tough! Can anybody say Travis Stephens? And Its not like Smith did not belong on the field last season, he got great separation and was able to beat SEC defenses deep! If he has improved his concentration he's going to give em fits.
IMO, he has had enough chances. He is not a difference maker. To me, he and Josh smith are politics ball players because they are from Knoxville. I hate to say it but it's true. We have easy better options than either.
