Dexter

What was so bad about the finale? I heard bad things and finished it last night. I thought the whole final season was a massive, steaming POS. The finale wasn't the worst part of it. They really mailed it in

Mostly the absurdness of the last 20 minutes or so; and I mean absurd for what was already an absurd season.

Yes the whole season sucked, but that finale was one of the worst endings to a show that I can remember. Worse than the Sopranos, and I didn't think that was possible...

Just finished it. That was pretty awful.
I disliked it and talked a friend about it before even watching the last 60 seconds. I thought it was over and didn't even see that part until he started talking about it. That made it even worse.

I still had to see the ending. I was too invested to not see how it ends.

If you haven't seen the ending, don't read past here...

Highlight the below

I wish they would have at least shown him plotting to kill someone else in his new construction guy life. If he's going to give up his son and Hannah, you'd like to know that it isn't to just go start a new life somewhere. Though it was stupid, I would have liked it a little more if they would have just shown him still in crazy-Dexter-mode.
Are they hoping to make it into a movie now, or what?

Just finished season 4. Whoa...... When I saw Rita in the bath tub I let out a few man tears.

So far season 5 isnt that bad....but we'll see.

Anyone read any of the Dexter novels?

I just started watching it a couple of weeks ago. 4 episodes into season 3. I'm hooked.

Julie Benz is soooooo hot.

*spoiler alert*

Stop after season 5, its all downhill from there.

You're welcome. Lol

So I've heard. I've already read summaries for all 8 seasons...couldn't help myself. Really don't like that they killed off Rita. And the ending seemed stupid.

I've read the first 3 and need to get around to reading the rest. They are much lighter toned than the show, almost like black comedies. The stories are solid and pretty gruesome in parts, but the way Dexter muses about himself and his interactions with other people is pretty funny.

The ending was one of the.worst ever. IMO Which sucks because the first 4 seasons were incredibly good.

Eh I'd stop after Season 4. Season 5 isn't bad compared to 6-8, but compared to the first 4, and especially 4, it sucks.

I didn't care that much for 3, but again, that's compared to 1,2 and 4. Compared to 5-8 it's gold.

SouthKnox is already into season 5, that's why I said 5. Though I don't think 5 is bad, just meh. 6-8 on the other hand is pure ****.

Yeah pretty much. I also think Season 5 was "meh" because it was coming off Season 4, and honestly it was going to be hard to top that. It's almost like they knew Season 5 couldn't match 4 so they went with a meh story almost on purpose.

Season 5 the wheels starting getting shaky. But Season 6 the freakin' wheels came off. I still cringe about Season 6.

Finally got around to watching the last two episodes of the series. I didn't think they were as horrendous as most here did. It was an absurd ending, but the whole premise of the show was absurd from the start, so I'm not going to start docking points for that in the home stretch. I thought the ending was a decent fit to tie up the series. I wasn't appalled. Glad I watched it all start to finish. Fun show.

I finished it Monday. I had similar thoughts as well. Wondering why people thought the ending was the worst of all time.

I agree with the general sentiment that Dexter got pretty bad after season 4 and the series finale was lame.

The fact that it ended at the same time as BB made it look even worse. The finale wasn't good but the entirety of season 8 was one of the worst things ever put on television.

Eh. I didn't think the lumberjack part (occupation wise) was significant. It was just showing that he survived, moved, and stayed to himself (in the future). It completed his transformation.

My issues with the final episode is that everything that he worked for, for eight seasons, was completely undone in fifteen minutes. It was a dagger...

Well there's that little part of him driving into a raging hurricane in a boat and surviving. Even for Dexter, that was dumb.

The writers had intended for him to die but Showtime wouldn't let it happen.

I feel like this quality dropoff seems to happen with every show on that network.
