Diamond Deshields

From what I have read DeShields played with an injury her freshman year and that was supposed to have healed during her off year since she was practicing with the team last season. If the pain she is having is from the same injury after over 15 months since her last game there has to be some concern.

I don't know if it has ever been stated specifically what the injury was or what it involved, but it could be something that may give her some measure of trouble from now on. That doesn't mean she will not be able to play or perform at a high level; it may just be something she has to work through and learn to manage and deal with. And honestly, she could have aggravated the old injury during practice for the World University Games and felt it better to sit out rather than risk really damaging herself. Again, I'm just glad Holly was there to make sure she didn't play when she shouldn't have been.

It's her ankle.

I watched every game Russia played, they were awesome, the PG way above the US and the passing and interior play were also superior. They chose to have their worst game against the US. The coach changed his game plan and it didn't work, he should have stuck to what was working when they were well up and their game was flowing.

Anyone know where Thomas ended up? There is a lot of speculation flying around as she was tweeting from London, none of it good.

I also think Azure Stevens was much better overall than Wilson throughout the tournament but Staley kept pulling her out and leaving her out. She was more of a triple threat.

I watched all the USA games. I agree that Stevens was very good, but Staley had an embarrassment of riches with Collier and Wilson. All of them deserved a lot of time.

I disagree, Stevens started with both players but ended up with 6 mins per game of less time than Wilson. Stevens was about same on FG% around 49% but much better than Wilson on 3s which was 50%, Wilson was 0% and especially on FTs where Stevens was 70% and Wilson was 50%, Wilson also had 22 turnovers to Stevens 6, Stevens had 7 blocked shots and Wilson had 8, only difference was Wilsons rebounds but if Stevens had played as many minutes as Wilson, her rebounds would have been about the same. If it had not been for Stevens great start against the Russians, the US would have been in a huge hole and probably would have lost. So the question remains why was she always taken out? IMO she was the only player that would have challenged Wilson for leading scorer! Majority of Colliers points came from missed shots, layups and being opportunistic around the basket when the defense was focusing on Wilson and Stevens etc.

IMO USA were sorely lacking in the backcourt, the basketball gurus kept emphasizing that throughout the tournament. They also thought that fundamentals were awful, especially shooting and free throws, along with taking care of the ball.

The backcourt for that squad was relatively weak IMO. It just baffles me that Te'a wasn't chosen. She's clearly better than Dangerfield IMHO.

I watched all the USA games. Collier played as well as anyone on the US team. She led the team in minutes played, rebounding, steals, +/- totals and efficiency rating. I wish she was coming here to play. I agree that we could have used help in the backcourt.

At the level of basketball talent Lauren Avant was playing against at Rhodes, a one legged blind midget could have been a star..... :)

Maybe, but she garnered enough honors so that her jersey will be retired to the HoF in Knoxville.
