Option 2 is wrong and should be worded differently…the rule reads as this…e

NCAA 2-39 Half Swing

Half Swing

SECTION 39. An attempt by the batter to stop the forward motion of the bat while swinging, which puts the batter in jeopardy of a strike being called. The half swing shall be called a strike if the barrel head of the bat passes the batter’s front hip. This does not apply to a bunt attempt when the batter pulls the bat back.

Crossing home plate has nothing to do with anything…where do you guys get this nonsense from…lol
Explain "the barrel head of the bat passes the batter's front hip". Let me add this the ump so no swing so it was a no swing.

I would expect FSU to maybe have a poll on the call but not VN. 3rd Base Ump made the call, no swing end of story.
This x1000. The rule is it’s the ump(s) call that determines swing vs no swing. There is not an official standard to determine otherwise written out in rule form. In other words, it’s not a swing because ump said it’s not a swing.

To restate what Willis posted here: End. Of. Story.

50/50 judgment call by the officials, he said no swing so I'll roll with that. If had called it a swing and strike there would have been nothing we could have done about that either.

Also: not reviewable. Call on field stands.

It’s a judgement call made on a one second notice by a human being using his eye sight. There’s only about 100+🤷‍♂️ other judgment calls (not counting balls and strikes) made during a game. Happens ever game we play. That call didn’t beat FSU… their inability to get us out in the 9th inning beat them. Now …the judgement call to keep them out of the football playoffs…IMO…THAT was a bad call.

There might be more that’s involved.

Watching reply he stopped right where you need to. Tad more and batter out and game to Semi and the Noles. Their big hit is We've Got the Chop.....playing in many butcher shops in Tallahassee area.

Stop whining about ESPN. It was a huge play in the game.

And it doesn’t get any closer than that.

Daaaaang man, it is called levity. I watch ESPN everyday. But they are like weathermen, wrong half the time!

Bad or marginal calls are part of baseball. This one was close enough that people need to let it go. No way an ump is going to call a guy out on a close call check swing in a situation like that.

I’ve said it in another thread…it was a 50/50 call. Had it been the bottom of the third the ump may have called it a strike, but generally speaking, they don’t like making “the” call that ends a game unless they absolutely have to. So it was the correction decision to let it play out.

Not to mention, human error is a part of the game. There were also questionable calls going against us as well. They are just butthurt that they blew a big lead. I’m just happy with the win.

It could have gone either way, just like about 30 other calls. That's baseball. I'm apparently in the minority, but I thought that was one of the more consistently called games I've seen this year.

Let's go back and analyze the FSU potential "half swings" that were also not called a strike by the umps. I know at least one of them fit the above but was not called a strike.

The umps were consistent in the game in how they handled these.
