He proclaimed himself as a lottery pick or top 10 pick guy and when a scout said ''Scotty Hopson was from another planet''...... That's when you know someone doesn't have it down mentally.

He should have listened to everyone and stayed in school instead of having delusional thoughts about himself being a top 10 pick when he only had 4 points against Michigan.

While hindsight is 20/20 and he may now realize that another year at UT would be very beneficial to advancing his game and getting him ready for the next level, this was one of the weakest drafts ever, and even with this season's inconsistencies, may have been his best chance at getting drafted. Regardless, good luck to him and hopefully he'll improve his game and catch on somewhere.

He didn't specify which.

Agreed. When you can't dribble the ball, get very lazy on the court, check out of games by not being there mentally, you are only hurting yourself.

He had no chance of getting drafted next year. The possible lockout pushed the best players to stay another year. Next year will be a stacked draft. He didn't get drafted this year, but he still had a better shot at it.

I never realized he thought of himself as a top ten pick. News to me.

With that said, it is sad that he didn't get drafted. It would have done him some good to be open to learning some defense and ball handling

The only people who really thought he'd get drafted were apparently Scotty Hopson, Scotty Hopson's agent, his immediate family and all the "friends" that probably kept telling him he'd get drafted hoping to cash in on his fame which will never come to fruition now.

All you had to do was watch him play and you could see with your own eyes he wasn't ready for the NBA yet. He couldn't dribble past so-so guards in D1 and he was pouty and lazy. He needed a senior year to even have a shot at the NBA.

In several interviews, including those found on youtube, Hopson said he thought he was going to be the best player in the NBA and that he thought he was a high lottery pick. I like Scotty but turns out you could drop the lottery pick part, he was simply high.

If you are clumsy and cant dribble then you have no shot at the NBA.He should of spent his summers at UT trying to learn how to dribble instead of day dreaming.
I wonder when it hit him during the draft that his name wasnt going to be called ?
I actually hate it for him but I dont think he was going to listen to anybody about staying in school.

I hate it for Scotty. He got bad advice. Only thing to do now is for him to move forward and try to improve either in the developmental league or overseas.

Anyone with any degree of Basketball knowledge knew Hopson wasn't a 1st round draft pick, even in a weak draft. People who thought / said otherwise is clueless. Now he can drop his head and pout like he did during his time on the hill when things didn't go his way. I won't miss his whiny ass one little bit. He got exactly what he deserved.

If I'm an NBA guy evaluating Hopson, then I think something along these lines. On the one hand, the guy's a great physical talent. Outstanding athlete. Shoots pretty well. On the other, he's got a bad handle; he's inconsistent. Might be a head case. But the tiebreaker is this: the guy's a junior, not a freshman. If he's such an incandescent physical talent, why'd it take him three years to offer up a ten- or twelve-game stretch of really good play?

It sucks for Hopson, and I'm rooting for him, but I'd probably have taken a flier on some guy from Yugoslavia with great stats and a good YouTube highlight reel instead of Hopson too.
