Did the BCS get it right? (merged)

just saw that. What an awful year for college football. Outside the top 3 or 4 teams, the rest of the crowd sucks. For my money, TX sucks too.

I can't disagree with that. The difference between oregon, oregon state, and Cal is pretty slim. I agree if oregon is a top-10 team the rest of the country ain't that good.

So would Ole Miss, but when you put USC in the spotlight against Florida/Oklahoma/Texas you cant help but think that USC will put on a show

i agree. i think they are the most talented team in the country its just that they always seem to have a huge letdown against some inferior conference team like stanford or oregon st.

in the end, i'd still like to see FL play USC. and barring any major defections this year, that's the match up likely to be seen in Jan 2010 for the NT.

SC losses the vast majority of it's defense, sanchez is talking about going pro, and SC plays Cal, Oregon, *cough* ND, and Ohio State on the road. They may run the table, but it wont be easy.

That would be a great match up to see. This season does make me wish there were some sort of playoff system, if only a plus one. Granted, then you have the Utah factor to deal with.

The SEC has won 5 of the 11 BCS Championships. Florida is the best team in the country.

Why does the past have anything to do with this Florida team, this USC team, this Utah team, this Texas team? Florida won the game that computers and people put them in, they are not conclusively the best team in the country.

a plus one ends every legit gripe any teams have had and keeps the importance of the greatest regular season in sports. a playoff system ruins college football.

there is never going to be conclusively a best team in the country, unless we go to an NBA style best of 7 series, where single game anomalies get washed away. Ain't happenin'.

Bull. Thats the line that BCS enthusiasts always bring. Have you ever sat and watched the MLB, NFL or NHL Playoffs, or March Madness and thought to yourself...wow, this is so great, but it made the rest of the season meaningless. No.

who knows who the best team in the country is.. or the 2nd or 3rd...who's to say that Tennessee wouldnt beat alabama right now, today?

Agreed 100%. The "Plus 1" game is the next and hopefully final logical step . . . but you know as well as I do that the mid-majors will still gripe.

Like, BPV, I sort of agree, but this year I think the real plus one matchup would be FL and USC. There would still be the Utah whiners in the media.

They are mid majors for a reason. Utah had no legit gripe whatsoever before they destroyed bama. They beat michigan. congrats. if they had sneaked into a playoff instead of say bama or penn state, would that have been fair based on the regular season?

I have done exactly that. The fact that even NBA commentators talk about playoff basketball being a different game than regular season basketball proves that point.

NFL teams that sew up divisions and playoff spots early simply shut it down. This year's final Titans-Colts game was little more than an exhibition game.

Who cares if the NHL starts randomly selecting the Stanley Cup champion?

So who gets into that plus one game right now, Usc or texas? The plus isn't the solution either.

I think a 6 team playoff. Top 2 seeds get first round bye. Keeps the regular season important.

exactly. the nba regular season is so meaningless that the vast majority of nba players mail in 90% of the regular season.

both get it. 1 vs 4, 2 vs 3. Winner plays in the NC game.

though i would advocate not allowing 2 teams from the same conference.
