Did the BCS get it right? (merged)

both get it. 1 vs 4, 2 vs 3. Winner plays in the NC game.

though i would advocate not allowing 2 teams from the same conference.
In that format its not possible to advocate teams from the same conference. Thats basically a mini playoff, you line those teams up and play no matter who they may be.

We argue that the BCS may no give us the best team in the country..but after thinking about it does any league whether that be the NFL,NCAA D2 or D3, March Madness, or Hockey give us the best team

Last year Super Bowl- was the Giants the best team in the NFL...no the Patriots were..

I mean some years its the best team that win it all but not all the time..
Take The Celtics last year...yeah they were the best team.

Really any Championship game doesnt really state the best team in the world or nation...It simply allows the team who is playing best at the right time and makes them Champs...

Cause really if we were just trying to find the best team say in baseball then the Yankees would win the Series w/o playing any games...would anyone disagree that there not the most talented team...

So back the the question did they get it right?

Florida took care of business at the right time as well did OU...so i wold say yes they got it right

In the NBA and the NFL, the best team wins far more often than not.

but not everytime....nothing is guaranteed..you know?
So, since the best team doesn't always win, college football should keep an imbecilic system that prevents an opportunity to best determine a champion? Good idea.

no im sayin we all get p o'd because the BCS doesnt find the best team in the land...when no system really finds the best team it just a matter of who took care of business and who didnt plain and simple

The amount of excuses made by SEC fans is hilarious. You guys have some false sense of elitism or something.

Urban Meyer thinks Utah is one of the best teams in the country. Meyer: I can't think of many schools that are better than Utah - USATODAY.com

No matter what a Mountain West team does against the SEC, it is either (a) a fluke (b) the SEC team didnt care and didnt show up.

WTF, can you guys ever give credit where it is deserved. I mean who really cares what actually happens on the field, right??? Do you guys truly believe that a conference not in the BCS can't be good, simply because it is not in the BCS???

Look at the facts. The MWC was 6-2 against the PAC-10 (6-1 in the regular season). A Wyoming team that isn't even competitive in the MWC beat Tennessee at Knoxville. In the subsequent weeks, Tennessee beat Kentucky and Vanderbilt (both bowl winners). Utah beat Oregon State (the team who beat USC). Utah went to the big house and beat Michigan (when Michigan was ranked). Utah manhandled Alabama, the same Alabama team who went undefeated in the SEC regular season and who was ranked #1 for 5 weeks.

Cool, I can't wait to hear a bunch more of arguments that completely lack in any factual basis. Alabama was overrated and actually really terrible. Alabama didnt care and didnt show up, if they cared they would beat Utah by 50. If Alabama had their offensive tackle, their defense would have shut Utah out. Tennessee didnt even try. Tennessee didnt care. If Tennessee even tried they would win by 50. Geez, gimme a break.

FYI, after the fact subjective-based arguments are extremely weak...show up to the court room with them and see how well they work.

You beat the SEC runner-up in the worst season the SEC has had in a decade. Congratulations.

A Wyoming team that isn't even competitive in the MWC beat Tennessee at Knoxville. In the subsequent weeks, Tennessee beat Kentucky and Vanderbilt (both bowl winners).

The Tennessee gameplan for the Wyoming game and the two following games was completely different. Had we gone to the run 80% of the time gameplan we used against Vandy and UK, Wyoming doesn't get the two huge INT returns that allowed them to compete.

The BCS isn't what prevents that.

Well hell. Urban said Utah; his last gig is great. They must be.

How about we let the general consensus stand and Morons like poke can wax Quixotic with stats and such trying to prove their fantasy.

By accomplishment, yes. Did the best team win it? No. USC would have skulled either team in the game last night. They just didn't do enough to merit inclusion in the game.

You can say that a lot. I don't think anyone preps teams for big games like Carroll.

I am sure this would probably not a popular opinion but I thought Utah and Boise State should have been in it. They were both Undefeated. I know there are a lot of people that will say their schedules werent all that tough. However I dont think the Pac-10 or big 12 schedules could have been all that better.
Also being undefeated is tough no matter what conference your in.

Kind of off subject.....Do you remember when a lot of people thought that the SEC Championship game would kill the conference chances of winning a MNC? The SEC Championship has increased the conference chances instead, wouldn't it be great if the NCAA at least made all BCS conferences have a playoff game? That would at least clear the fog on a few of the teams at the end of the year.
