we still get HGTV with the fios app on the xbox but really don't watch it much. Can't remember if we get History or not

you do not need to subscribe to a tv package to get WatchESPN. At least I know this is true with Verizon fios

We used a friends DirectTV account for a bit and got some HGTV programming on the DTV iPad app which we stream to the TV. It was pretty limited though.

My mom set me up with a charter email which I use for watchESPN. Something odd Ive noticed is that games that are blacked out on the PC or Xbox play fine on the iPad app. Maybe it's just something they haven't fixed yet. Haven't checked the AppleTV app yet.

Must be a verizon thing. I know my buddy who had comcast, could not get watchespn without having the cable channel.

I could do without cable, but I could not do without my DVR. In order to follow F1 it really helps to have it record races that take place at 3am on a Sunday morning.

I share an account with my mom. I hardly use it but there is plenty on content to keep you entertained. All the major networks stuff is on there. Quite a bit of cable programming too.

Yea there's a lot you can get by streaming. WatchESPN, Netflix, hboGO, crackle, the golf channel (limited support), etc.

I think one thing that comes with cord cutting is you find out how little you actually want to watch. Since it takes a smidgen more effort to watch something, if you aren't really in the mood you don't bother. Unlike with cable where you are more prone to turn on the TV and mindlessly flip channels or leave it in as background noise.

I guess but that's why fios is awesome :) (even without mentioning the internet speeds)

I have a dvr I built myself. Installed a couple of programs and I can record any channel I receive

that's the biggest issue (no channel surfing) and why we picked out some series on Hulu or Netflix and watch 1-2 episodes when we get a chance.

To you guys that have made the switch.
What is your opinion on this idea?

Going with a combination of Lava HD Ultra--- 150 mile antenna and Hulu Plus.

The Lava HD 2605 ULTRA Outdoor HDTV Antenna

Watch TV. Watch Movies. | Online | Free | Hulu

Maybe overkill on the antenna but it should work. Who's your ISP gonna be? I prefer Netflix over Hulu myself. If you have a relative or somebody in your area with service that supports watchespn it could be an option as well as hbo. Crackle is a free movie app but its decent.

do you need that kind of antenna? There are lots of sites that will show you the channels around and what you need to pick them up

I will probably pick up a Sony Blu-ray Player.
We also have a WII for the grandkids we could use.

I am open to suggestions as this is all new to me.

Roku is a great device for streaming and simple to setup/use

Wii can't do HD that I know of. Maybe it can stream HD. I don't know.

I second the roku. It's probably the best all around streamer. Under $100. Lots of channels.

I use an AppleTV but only because I have a an iPhone and iPad which can stream to it.

Thrasher is right, Wii does not stream in HD. The WiiU might but in assuming you have the original.

For $102.85 I can hook up 4 tv's. I can get the antenna, pole, remote rotor, 4 way splitter, etc. From what I have saw on line today that price will be tough to beat. It is a small long range antenna, don't see how that would have any downside. I will look some more before purchasing but so far this appears to be my best option.

What can you possibly get other than multiple network channels?

Look...I...am a man. And as a man, I feel it is my calling...no...my DUTY...to not stop trying until I can get as many channels as possible. Sure, most of them may be worthless...sure, most of them may be duplicates...but when I can look you in the eye and say, "I was watching Turkey Idol the other day....chick was hairy", I know I will have succeeded in my mission.

By the way, I had a meeting at Bella Latte (attached to a bank/credit union or something) last night over in your neck of the woods. Nice place.

Yep they moved it from beside Demetres to where its at now awhile back. I always think that blue light flashing sign is the PO PO & I go by it every day. Probably about a mile & a half from where I live if that. If you flag down the right charter guy you can probably get a basic hookup for about $100.
