Have you been up around the spence field area, where the boy was last seen? I havent, but i have hiked a little bit of the Appalachian trail..
No, but I can tell you that it's very easy to get lost in the smokies. Last year the wife and I were looking for ramps in the Citico wilderness and got separated. Cell phones and gps make it easy, that wasn't the case in 1968
I think he got scared and travelled too far. The bones found a few years later but not reported until 1985 were likely his. As for the troops, they were training nearby and brought in to help. The search ended up having way too much help though, a lot of it amateur. Any signs that were there were probably obliterated by searchers and the following rain. I think about that kid every time I go to Tremont.
Some background here: http://archive.knoxnews.com/news/local/search-in-smokies-for-lost-boy-dennis-martin-produces-lessons-for-future-searches-ep-409881509-359338011.html/
Search around and you will find people certain that bigfoot or aliens got him.
No, I carry my two year old and my wife bikes with us but still I'm on high alert any time she's out of that carrier. I like others find this stuff fascinating to read but terrifying know that it's real.
Well thats good. Good idea to carry a firearm too, if its allowed. Also, a personal transponder. Oh ya, if you suddenly hear the all the forest animals go eerily quiet, its prolly best for you and the fam to sit tight until you hear all the noises come back..oh and dont let her pick berries...a lot of kids go missing picking berries with their parents like right there with them
I do some birding while I hike and have been lucky to have not heard silence. The closest I've been to real danger is 20 minute old bear droppings. When I saw that I was on high alert but then I saw some buck and turkey not long after so I felt a little safer then.
Yep, silence in the woods is not a good thing...for some reason, the black bears seem to be extra aggressive this year..i think there have been two predatory human killings already this year by black bears
I have to admit I read the article and watched the Youtube video from the first page.
Found it interesting. Then googled for more. Is it trying to say bigfoot lives in the Smokey mountains?
My personal opinion...
The wrong Martin child was snatched.
The other family being there and having the same last name??
Then another family down the trail that was visiting from another state (I think) sees someone running through the woods with a sack thrown over its shoulder??
Odd imo.
