At the very least, they are going to rip control away from Gus, especially on the offense, and hire top assistants for him.

It still is just an ungodly amount of money to buy him out then go hire a top name head coach, even for a big SEC school with lots of boosters with lots of money.

Thats what ND did - kept Kelly despite the 4-8 season - the staff was overhauled though

this happens every other year. I will believe it when I see it.

Yep.

And what many don't realize is that $49 million is just the start. You have assistants to pay off, possible buyout at whatever coach you are looking at (which could be considerable) new salary...

A whole lot of "hidden" costs.

Would love to see them hire Brohm. He is a fit with what they have there and probably could be very successful quickly. Would stir the pot with UGA and Bama for recruits.

If they were going to throw a "Jimbo Fisher" sized offer at someone currently coaching, I'd think the list of guys realistically interested would look something like James Franklin, Gary Patterson, Chris Peterson, Jeff Brohm, and Mike Gundy.
You're kidding, right? What is it with Mike Gundy? At best, he is a mediocre coach in a mediocre conference. I think the folks at Auburn are smart enough to see that.
