Disney: The Most Evil Business In The World

I have no sympathy for large corporations that want to dabble in politics. I remember the good old days when none of them said anything about political issues and just promoted their products.
It seems like ever since Gillette decided to tell men that they were all misogynistic bastards, others thought it was a great thing and jumped onboard. Now all we get are constant lectures from companies that seem to take further leftist stances, and people are just totally sick of it. Until they get a scolding from their customers via a decline in sales or a slap in the pocket book from states like Florida, they will keep pushing an agenda that is fueled by a minority of the country.

I think the customers should decide if they want to do business with a company, I don't need a Governor to protect me from a CEO's scary words.

Also, Florida has in no way slapped Disney in the pocketbook. The special district remains, the double taxation remains-- though at first it seemed Ron was going to have the taxpayers pick up the tab until someone explained to him how special districts worked.....that's when he pivoted form abolishing it to giving it a new name and appointing his donors to the board.

And I do agree that it would be nice if businesses would stay out of politics but there's too much money at stake for the politicians to change the laws. They are so desperate for money that Ron hasn't even returned the $100k Disney gave him.

So do you think the legislatures voted on this without some kind of feedback from the voters? Even those dumb idiots in Washington don't pass a law without figuring out whether their constituents are in favor of it. Disney screwed up and pissed off a lot of people and now they are paying the piper.

It looks like they are trying to shoot their own foot off anyway.

I think most of their constituents had no clue what they were passing and the legislatures didn't even consider what their constituents thought.

So with all the press this has gotten, you think the residents of Florida don't have a clue? I can't believe I wrote that, never mind.

You can say that about every bill tbh.

And you say that but still lay it wholly on DeSantis. Did he want it? Sure. But he didn't do it via EO. If it was through EO, I'd agree with you.

I think it's more a case of people reading headlines and stopping. Most folks do not get into the details, so do not have a full understanding of what's actually in legislation.

DeSantis is the executive. If he would have vetoed it and been overridden fine, it wouldn't be on him but he obviously supported the legislation or it would never had been passed.

Be that as it may, I honestly don't think this is a lane that Disney needs to be in one way or the other.

I agree with this but they shouldn't be singled out and punished for opposing the law.
Has Disney reported any financial loss from this legislation? If they do, then the shareholders should reign hell down on the CEO and BOD's for losing shareholder value. Oh wait, the CEO was already fired.
We'll just agree to disagree on this issue hog, I hate what Disney has become and I think they should suffer the consequences of their wokeness no matter how it comes about.

Exclusive — ‘I Feel Betrayed by All of Disney, Including ESPN’: Jenner Says Iced Out by ABC, Hulu Due to Views

Caitlyn Jenner is taking aim at the “radical gender ideology” of the far left with a new PAC aimed at keeping men out of women’s sports. The former Olympian is also calling out “all of Disney, including ESPN” and Chairman Bob Iger, accusing the network of “betrayal” due to Jenner’s conservative beliefs.

I believe DeSantis believes that in order to win the republican nomination he has to attract the lowest common denominator away from Trump, and he is obviously willing to hurt his own state in the process.

/thread

Trump is now in a position to do what DeSantis should have done all along…sit back quietly while the other guy drives his campaign train into a ditch.

So has Disney been destroyed by the state of Florida? How many people in the Orlando area have been laid off? I'm actually loving this fight between a woke POS company and a state that holds the right of taxation over them. I have to think that the people steering Disney over the Florida argument are some of the dumbest people in the world.
Disney has way too many dollars invested in Florida to ever leave. The only thing they can do is dig a deeper hole with their customers.

It’s amazing to see so many so-called small government advocates side with Desantis against one of the state’s largest employers, and a top worldwide destination for tourism.

Disney isn’t leaving Florida, and Disney will easily outlive the political relevance of Ron Desantis. Those siding with Desantis over Disney weren’t visiting Disney in the first place.

And take it from someone much closer to the situation than you, the parks are packed. Expect prices for one-day passes to go up to reduce capacity.

For every pearl clutching conservative who thinks Disney exists solely to groom kids, there’s a couple dozen international visitors dropping thousands of dollars to spend a week at the parks.

Disney isn’t losing business in Central Florida over this, but Desantis is losing the I-4 corridor to voters on both sides. They see this charade for the sham it is.

So has Disney been destroyed by the state of Florida? Hardly. As recently as 30 days ago the Magic Kingdom was turning people away at the gates. The Florida parks is one of the strongest performing divisions. It appears that the people that visit the parks have largely ignored the pissing match.

How many people in the Orlando area have been laid off? Very few. Worldwide Disney employs 220,000 and as many as 77,000 in Orlando. They're laying off 7,000 companywide among several lines of business so the people laid off in Orlando should be miniscule and will hopefully handled through attrition. I'm certainly not celebrating/hoping that anyone loses their job in the face of a coming recession.

They fired the former CEO, the current one says his goal is to stay out of politics. Who are the "people steering Disney in Florida" I would have guessed the CEO

Disney has way too many dollars invested in Florida to ever leave. Certainly. They'll be functioning long after Ron D and the rest of us are dust.

The only thing they can do is dig a deeper hole with their customers. Again, the parks performance is very strong. Customers seem to have no concern with what's being said/done by the governor.

As a guy that REALLY wants to like DeSantis, you're right. He picks stupid fights and it's absolutely obvious he's doing it to attract the people who are impressed by bravado and stupid antics.

Same here Septic....I have tried to get on board as well. As a conservative who desperately wants anyone but Trump/Biden in charge, I've wanted badly to like this guy but he keeps up this weird Trump lite act.

"DeSanctus is being absolutely destroyed by Disney. His original P.R. plan fizzled, so now he’s going back with a new one in order to save face,” Trump said on Truth Social, referring to the Florida governor by a nickname. “Disney’s next move will be the announcement that no more money will be invested in Florida because of the Governor. In fact, they could even announce a slow withdrawal or sale of certain properties, or the whole thing. Watch! That would be a killer.”

EXCLUSIVE: How Disney celebrated their fairytale ending in war with DeSantis too early: New Reedy Creek board will be told tomorrow the old board's deals 'aren't worth the paper they're written on'

  • The board overseeing Disney's district will hear Wednesday how the deals meant to strip them of their powers are void after the corporation took a victory lap
The new board controlling Disney’s special district will learn Wednesday if agreements meant to strip them of their powers are valid, DailyMail.com can reveal.

The dispute between Walt Disney Company and the state governor erupted in March 2022, when DeSantis passed his 'Don't Say Gay' bill, banning classroom teaching on gender identity.

Disney spoke out against the law - relying on special legal privileges it has held for decades at the so-called Reedy Creek Improvement District, which covers the 40 square miles of land owned by the corporation.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis believes the Walt DIsney corporation was premature in celebrating its legal victory against the DeSantis-selected board.
