Disney: The Most Evil Business In The World

I don't think anyone wants to read your analysis on brand given your marketing 101 knowledge or lack thereof.

Hopefully my employer does since they've been paying me for 10+ years to be a marketing professional.

You with your stupid appeals to authority.

'A dream come true' or 'Overpriced with Hard Beds and Thin Walls'? What Disney super fans REALLY thought about Star Wars hotel that is set to Close just a year after opening

  • Disney World's expensive Star Wars hotel is closing after just one year
  • The two-night 'voyage' aboard the Galactic Starcruiser cost guests up to $20,000 for the experience
Many Disney and Star Wars fans were left devastated after news broke that the immersive Star Wars hotel would be shutting its doors later this year.

But to others, it will come as little surprise after claiming all along that a visit to the hotel was simply not worth the hefty price tag.

The hotel, which opened in March 2022 in the Orlando-area to much fanfare and sold out 'voyages,' charges guests anywhere between $5,000 and $20,000 for an immersive two-night experience.

Some super fans have been quick to post videos online where they are crying with happiness at their 'dream come true' stay.

But others, such as park enthusiasts Taylor Jaxson and Sarah Pineda, who go by the name @themeparkbesties, were far less enthusiastic.

In one Instagram post from February last year, the two claimed the beds were hard, they had only been given 'a single, sleeping bag type blanket' and the walls and door were so thin they could hear everything go on around them.

The two ultimately decided it was not worth the money at all

On Tripadvisor, one person said the hotel was a 'total rip off' and that it would be better to stay in a motel.

The unknown poster, who went to the hotel in August last year, wrote: 'It was a total rip off! Its better to stay at a motel.

'Very limited food both quantity and variety, was more like we were in a jail.

'I am a Disney fan and I know Disney is expensive, but they normally give you something for your money.

'This Starwars Galactic cruise is a robbery, you are paying $5,000 for a family of 4, for nothing.'

But their take on the hotel was in stark contrast to other overwhelmed visitors who appeared to be blown away by their experiences.

In a TikTok summary of her experience, she says: 'I took two steps on board and immediately started crying.

'It was all so real, I loved the theming [in the cabin]. I was freaking out.'

As word of the closure spread to Reddit, one user said: 'It looks like an actual maximum security prison from the exterior. What a waste of money for everyone.'

Another commented: 'This is actually hilarious.

You had to be explained beginning concepts and you've been in it 10+ years? Oh my goodness. VolinBham was inspired to make a whole thread about it because of you. I'm astonished. Peter Principle amiright?

DeSantis stands his ground in Disney fight: 'The chance of us backing down... is zero'

Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis says that when it comes to Florida's battle with The Walt Disney Company, "the chance of us backing down from that is zero."

"They can do whatever they want," DeSantis said when asked by a customer in the Red Arrow Diner in Manchester about the dispute with Disney. "I know people try to chirp and say this or that. The chance of us backing down from that is zero."

It's not totally booked, and it's not profitable. Nor will it ever be based upon the current trends in booking. If it were fully booked, and yet it's not reaching ROI projections, they'd raise the price

Article I read said it has been profitable. Argue with them.

“He loves publicity and is great in front of an audience”

That is your ringing endorsement for a guy that is “too bad we don’t elect him for president”.

If some of the 17 billion in construction gets cancelled it should be because it is the best move for the business. Not to have a scalp.

You can't get elected unless you like being in front of the cameras, but I guess that doesn't describe any Repubs. Yeah, right.

And don't be stupid, i said he should be President because he knows how to effectively exercise power.

Do you just like blabbering? Why are you talking about repubs now? I was addressing your comments.

And now you have leaped to “effectively exercise power”. Yea! Many a tyrant has been good at that.

Note, the entire Star Wars expansion cost a billion. The hotel was just one part of that.....

Yeah, BS meter was going crazy with that headline. Abandon a $1b investment after one year? Where are all the people with marketing degrees to explain that's bad business.

Do you work for Anheuser-Busch?

I probably would never ever work for a company anybody has heard of. I like chaos. I do not like too much structure. Or feeling like I have to do everything that I'm doing. I like autonomy and to be judged on results. **** is broken all the time with our biz and that's part of the chaos I accept with autonomy, but we've grown annual revenue 5x on my watch. The pay isn't great either, but I would hate life if you doubled my pay and took my work freedom.

My favorite line from the movie Operation Petticoat, "In confusion there is profit." I think they stole that from Sun Tzu.

You're going to have to find that article. Because there is no logical scenario in which Disney spends over half a billion dollars on a profitable project only to close it a year and a half after it opened. If you've got a fully-booked hotel experience, and it's simply not generating the ROI because the expenses are greater than the original projections, you raise the price. Instead, Disney has spent the past six months offering discounts. So you're going to have to link that article, because nothing that you're saying squares with the decisions that Disney has made.

Even if it stayed full 365 days per year at full price Iger (and I'm paraphrasing) said it would not have mattered. A boutique hotel of 100 rooms isn't enough to move the needle for a company the size of Disney.

I thinks some of the headlines are a little misleading. The Star Wars park was $1B, a 100 room hotel with no windows designed to be like the inside of a starship was just a small part. Rooms for 3 adults and one child, that’s where the marketers missed the boat. That doesn’t sound like the typical Star Wars fan with enough money to visit
