Disney: The Most Evil Business In The World

I don't buy the wild ass rumors but it's clear she was the next scapegoat for Disney's operational failures. Given her inability to control costs with content and inability to profitably monetize Disney+, she should have been fired years ago....

If she cooked the books she may have alot more drama headed her way...one can only hope for such a "fairy" tale ending.

I'm more of the opinion that she just wasn't very good at her job. She inherited a bunch of financial tailwinds and it only took her a few years to F them up...

Disney’s Diversity Chief reportedly Exits after ‘woke’ policies controversies

Disney’s chief diversity officer Latondra Newton is reportedly leaving the company — ending a six-year stint that generated controversies as the Mouse House adopted “woke” policies that have alienated many of its core customers.

Last year, Disney World in Orlando, Fla. grabbed headlines when it did away with its longtime greeting, “Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls” from its Magic Kingdom fireworks show to promote inclusivity.

On Newton’s watch, Disney also ditched “fairy godmothers” for more inclusive, gender-neutral titles at dress-up boutiques inside its theme parks.

Employees who were formerly called “Fairy Godmothers in Training” are now called “Fairy Godmother’s Apprentices.”

“This way, cast members that might not identify as female can still be part of the process to dress up & style the children without having to refer to themselves as a female Disney character,” according to Disney blog “Streaming the Magic.”

Latondra Newton is leaving her role after more than six years as chief diversity officer at The Walt Disney Company.

During Newton’s tenure, Disney landed in the middle of the nation’s culture wars by introducing gay, lesbian, transgender, non-binary, and other minority characters into its animated series and films.

Last month, a survey found that Disney’s reputation has suffered as a result of its wading into polarizing topics including transgender and sexual identity issues.

The Axios and Harris Poll survey ranked Disney as the fifth most polarizing company — a metric that is measured by the gap between the reputational score among Democrats and Republicans.

Box Office Analyst Estimates Disney Lost $890 Million on Last Eight Theatrical Releases

The Walt Disney Co. is estimated to have lost a stunning $890 million on its last eight studio releases, including The Little Mermaid and Elemental, according to a box office analyst.

Disney could see even more red ink since these titles are all destined for the Disney+ streaming service instead of other streamers, like Netflix or Amazon Prime Video, where they could generate additional revenue.

The YouTube box office analyst known as Valliant Renegade laid out his argument in a recent video in which he estimated that many Disney blockbusters actually lost money or barely broke even during their theatrical runs despite the news media spinning them as hits.

They include Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Thor: Love and Thunder, Ant-man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3.

Two of the titles were outright bombs — Strange World and Lightyear — while two others are still in theaters, The Little Mermaid and Elemental.

Disney could have another bomb on its hands in the form of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, which opens Friday. The fifth installment in the franchise has received scathing reviews since premiering at the Cannes Film Festival.

“That can’t go on forever. It’s just simple numbers, folks,” Valliant Renegade said in the video. “That’s where we are. The Walt Disney Company is just making all the wrong decisions not only creatively, but in the distribution channels as well.”

Or to put it another way

Youtuber claims Disney lost 890 million from films after not including Avatar and its 2.3 billion dollar gross...

I see that “Elemental” bombed. I guess that is a Disney movie.

Flash underperformed that opening weekend, too. They probably cannibalized each other to some degree. That's a DC movie with established fanhood. Elemental is original content and apparently had a pretty good 2nd weekend, but they still got a long way to go if this movie cost $200m.

Lots of things have changed with the industry, but Disney+ is a big reason I don't see any of these movies in the theater. I'm also not super-psyched to buy 4 tickets and concessions for movies that I don't care about. I guess other parents do that.

Counting Elemental among the losses when it's had 8 days to make $ is pretty hilarious, but I guess he got Franklin.

Elemental is going to be a bust but yes, you are correct, you are front-loading all the expenses and not including any future revenue....

The previews of Elemental said it wasn't very good.

But I have a question, how many people still go to movies?

The pandemic all but destroyed the movie theater industry. I've worked with a couple of companies and they are pulling out all the stops like reserved seats, food service in your seats, much nicer seating, but frankly that just shows how much they were taking advantage of us before.

I haven't gone to a movie theater at night in years. Just didn't enjoy the experience of trying to watch while people talked and played on their cellphones. People having throw downs over it. Like I want to pay $15 to watch a pair of rednecks try to intimidate each other.

When daughter was young I would take off from work and take her to matinees, especially when school was out. But with the huge tv screen size now, even bigger with projection, and the high end sound systems, I just don't enjoy the theater experience more than I do my home theater.

Saw packed house for Mario Brothers movie in my area. I know a lot of moms that are burned with Disney so I can see them taking a hit.

With another $65.5 million at the domestic box office, “Elemental” has generated $121 million globally to date. The only trouble is that “Elemental” cost $200 million to produce, so it needs to keep drawing family crowds well into summer to break even in its theatrical run, much less climb out of the red.

Lol I’m not making an argument. Just pointing out the inaccuracy of the tweet. However, you have added to your storied career as the worst meme poster in the PF.

She was a fkn awesome keystone to the team, and the point of the joke is that in today's society people would be crying about the wokeness of a show where a girl is at least the 2nd best player saving a team full of boy losers. The guy doing mental gymnastics to argue against an entirely appropriate label to try to deflect from the point/joke is the last person who should be telling anybody they're not good at memes.

You forgot to point out that they don't win the final game. A bona fide inaccuracy!

Acshually, Captain America isn't the hero. It's Ironman and Nick Fury. - the funnest guy at the party

Man, you are all over the place here. You seem quite emotionally invested in the original tweet, enough so that you are white knighting for it with quite the gusto.

No mental gymnastics have been performed and I'm not deflecting from the point of the joke. I even said I get the humor of the point being made. She was a good player but it is just not true that she was the heroine of the movie and she did not single handedly win "the game" as the tweet claimed was the main plot of BNB. In fact, all three statements in the tweet you posted were lame for different reasons. I don't agree with the first two either.
