I get it. It's OK to go around insulting people. Heading over to Walmart now to say some stuff to one clerk in particular and several shoppers I see periodically there. One is a Mex guy who walks funny. Another is a chubby gal who has a perpetual smile on her face. I don't like strangers smiling at me. So with my new license to be rude and insulting, I'm going to do what I was raised not to do. Thanks, man! :hi:
Seriously, it's not about saying just any negative comment. I do that myself sometimes when I don't like the play, behavior, or attitude of a player. But mocking the physical appearance of a person? Making truly bigoted comments about where they hail from? Memphis comes to mind cause I've seen some past comments that were very demeaning. Some of the best recruits that we've had or missed out on (i.e. HighTower) have come from there. Then I've seen ethnic comments that have to be insulting to those whom it applies. What we're talking about, at least i am, is stuff that is way beyond dissatisfaction with team or player play, or behavior etc. Just downright meanness is what I'm talking about. As for the moderators at CockyTalk, who cares what they do. They're just cocks, you know, who crow sunshine and the board name shouldn't appear in the same sentence as Volnation.
talking about their play is one thing and is fair game IMO. Saying a WR needs to catch more than he drops is one thing. Saying the WR needs to kill himself is a completely different idea. Sadly the second example happens more and more
I don't really see it that much, but even then idiots are going to be idiots.
It's honestly sad if a kid lets stuff like this get to him. The world is a much worse place than some idiot saying "go die". Even if that is classless.
But if that kid reads that post and says "I don't want to play for UT because X person said something stupid" that's incredibly naive on their part. Does it happen? I'm sure it does.
I think most people bash on Memphis because it is probably the most dangerous & corrupt city south of Detroit/Flint area in the US. Or so the statistics would have you believe
wait, so if a kid decides not to go to a school whose fans send death threats to their players then the recruit is naive? Wow
the thing is there are many who don't even understand there is a line to be crossed. Sadly they seem to find their way online in greater numbers every day.
If it could possibly be a negative then what's the point of doing it? There is no upside
If you're talking about the Sutton death-threat, bear in mind it was Butch that made this public.
What you're telling me is:
Jones let the action of one idiot fan severely hurt his ability to recruit?
And if you're not, I wouldn't say someone saying "X player should go die" is a death threat. Hell, I've had people say that to me directly and didn't feel my life was in danger. In fact, I've had people directly wish a pretty heinous death on me. Actually, I laughed. It was creative and really put them off.
Or maybe I just don't wear my ovaries on my shoulders. Maybe it's just me. Or maybe the world of Competitive Grocery Bagging and Stocking isn't as intense as I thought it was.
