Disrespecting UT players.

That's the thing though; has it really had an impact? I can't think of any, or at least anything on here that the fan who doesn't peruse these forums doesn't think as well.

Besides, VolNation is a terrible gauge of what Tennessee fans are actually like IRL (as are most fan forums dedicated to a specific team) if you think about it. This is the fringe element of UT fans (I don't necessarily mean that in a bad way). Most people are more than cordial towards former players, current players, and future players, and the vast majority of those people aren't browsing VolNation.

It's like saying Westboro represents all Americans.

and a 16-17yo kid who builds their life around social media is going to realize this?

I personally see no need in bashing the players who play for UT or who want to play for UT. Especially true for those who give very little for what they get in return

People build their life around social media?

Not about this patricular post, but I did see a 2014 commit comment on twitter something to the affect of fake fans, and some guy ask what he was talking about, and he said go to that "volnation" site and you will see what I am talking about. So yes they do visit this site, and yes they do talk about it. So I agree this site needs to be a posotive thing not something negetive all the time............flame away

Let's start policing free speech on the site, that'll fix everything right? :good!:

This is what happens, Count, when you have a society that has turned virtually everyone into some sort of victim. Everyone is offended by something now. Nation of wimps.

such a weak excuse - "it's not me, it's society"

You tell me.

If you have no data to draw conclusions, no experiences to suggest that what you are suggesting is really harmless, what do you really have?

I have common sense and self-accountability. The only person who can embarass you is YOU. The only person who can hurt your feelings is YOU. YOU choose how you're going to react to certain things.

If you read something on a message board and it causes you to go out and play a bad GAME...that's not the message board's problem...that's YOUR problem.

And this should be the responsibility of the parents to let their children know some of the disadvantages of social media

Hell, you have parents that let their kids post all kinds of crap on facebook, friend whomever, and have no idea what's going on . That's why internet crimes against children has risen

Parents need to still be parents. Internet and T.V. is not there to teach your kids about life.

or maybe the responsibility of adults to act grown up and not bash 16-22yo kids anonymously. Nah, keep up the good fight

It's almost as if people are posting on a forum for discussion of UT sports. Usually, this discussion will sour if UT plays like trash (which has been plenty).

That isn't crossing any line. Whoever reads that should know better than go on VN after a loss. Did they want to be fluffed? If they're on here reading what a bunch of idiots are saying, it's of their own volition.

The line is crossed when people send hateful letters to them directly. That is crossing a line.

If you get your feelings hurt because you chose to open pandora's box, that's on you.

free speech doesn't exist on a board like VN. Amazing how many don't realize this

I know this, but we have a pretty good amount of freedom to express ourselves on this board, especially in comparison to others. I wasn't literally meaning 'free speech.'

This place is what it is, and most people love it for what it is. I think it would be a terrible tragedy to go the way of many rival boards and start deleting posts and banning people over minor things. I think the way things are handled right not rides the fence pretty well.

talking about their play is one thing and is fair game IMO. Saying a WR needs to catch more than he drops is one thing. Saying the WR needs to kill himself is a completely different idea. Sadly the second example happens more and more

I've been kicked, punched, spit on, and called everything but my Christian name, yet somehow I didn't let that keep me from doing my job.

Its all about yourself. You have to be strong in mind and spirit and have confidence in yourself. People need to stop worrying about what everyone thinks or says about them. Men need to man up

I get it. It's OK to go around insulting people. Heading over to Walmart now to say some stuff to one clerk in particular and several shoppers I see periodically there. One is a Mex guy who walks funny. Another is a chubby gal who has a perpetual smile on her face. I don't like strangers smiling at me. So with my new license to be rude and insulting, I'm going to do what I was raised not to do. Thanks, man! :hi:

Seriously, it's not about saying just any negative comment. I do that myself sometimes when I don't like the play, behavior, or attitude of a player. But mocking the physical appearance of a person? Making truly bigoted comments about where they hail from? Memphis comes to mind cause I've seen some past comments that were very demeaning. Some of the best recruits that we've had or missed out on (i.e. HighTower) have come from there. Then I've seen ethnic comments that have to be insulting to those whom it applies. What we're talking about, at least i am, is stuff that is way beyond dissatisfaction with team or player play, or behavior etc. Just downright meanness is what I'm talking about. As for the moderators at CockyTalk, who cares what they do. They're just cocks, you know, who crow sunshine and the board name shouldn't appear in the same sentence as Volnation.
