That Tennessee was one bad call. One bad call away from winning this damn football game? So if we had won we would be 5-6 going into an easy win Kentucky game and a chance to go bowling. I can almost guarantee it that this site would be completely different had we won the game. There would be no "fire Butch" threads and all that garbage. You people seriously live in the moment so much. Look at the big picture, we suck. It's not Butch's fault we suck, it's his predecessors, and he almost had us to a bowl game this year. Do not give me all that ignorant garbage about how Butch is a terrible coach, that's horse ****. He's been the coach for not even a damn year. Give the man time and let him and his coaches get some recruits in here that fit their system. He's gotta trim the fat off of this team first. A lot of us have a superiority complex where we think we should still be instantly good every year no matter what. I hate to break it to you but it's not 1998 anymore. We are different now and we still have a long road to recovery. Give Butch a chance, put away the Jack, and go to sleep.

Butch is a bad coach, SO FAR, in the SEC.

Truth hurts.

Okay, so why did we beat South Carolina? Was it pure magical luck? That's a stupid arguement. I'm sick of people not giving anyone time. If he was a bad coach we wouldn't have one an SEC game this year. Maybe this time next year fans can analyze his coaching ability but not now. It's much too soon.

Which bad call? I hope you are not referring to the 4th down reversal because like it or not it was the right call.

*EDIT* Damn....everyone else in this thread beat me to it

Actually, it was luck.

It was an upset; I think given what we've seen, it leans more to the "fluke" side than it does the "normal".

I was at the game and to all of us it looked like he didn't get it. I guess he did. But you're right. Would have been a different game if we Dobbs' TD hadn't been called back too. But the point is we were in a position to win this game against a team with a lot of momentum. Vanderbilt isn't bad, I know a lot of you all don't want to think that but they really aren't bad.

I would suggest "all of you" go get your eyes checked Monday then.

We beat South Carolina with Worley's arm and North's hands.

2 things we didn't have against Vandy.

If Dobbs was playing USC, we'd have lost that game by 14.

Yeah, they did. I would have gone with Butch faking it as the "bad call".

I don't know if you were there or not but that wind was a killer plus Palardy had already missed on FG on the night. It's just one of those things, if it had worked it would have been great but it didn't so it was bad. Tis the game of football.

So, let me get this straight.
You want me to look at the SC game as evidence of Butch's greatness?
Yet, completely ignore the loss to Vandy?

Dooley under very similar circumstances took a less talented team to a bowl game.

This game never should have been dependent on a bad call... or a game winning drive by Vandy. UT should have won comfortably. Instead the gameplan and playcalling were hyper conservative. They played not to lose and as is very, very often the case... they lost.

If Dobbs could have managed Worley type numbers against a depleted Vandy secondary, we would have easily won the game.

Wrong... because it would n e v e r work right there. For anyone. Ever. It was a bad call.

Please enlighten me on the reason as to why the ball was short of the first down marker when the chain gang went out on the field and it was somehow a first down?
I'm not necessarily doubting you but I think that call was still bull
