Do not tell me

That this defense was actually this bad last week. There was locker room problems. I blame no one but Heupel not for fixing everything before the SC game no matter the problem.

I love how so many people can jump to such absolute judgments without knowing any of the real facts.

Do you really think that a HC wouldn’t try to fix any problems with his team?

Also, assuming there was a problem, you can lead a horse to water, but you can’t force it to drink. Knuckleheads gonna knucklehead. Sometimes emotions have to settle before anything can be resolved. For those of us who have raised kids, this should be well understood.

Whatever the issue, I give him credit for getting it sorted out this week.

In the past, but denying underlying problems last week is a little absurd. South Carolina May have just caught “lightning in a bottle” last week, and we may have been beaten anyway, but this was not the same team emotionally. Super glad they put it behind them, always disappointed for the squandered opportunity, but this was a satisfying beat down. Very cathartic.

I genuinely thought this was the best team in college football this year. With hooker at Q, I legit think that’s the case.

I know it’s speculation but after seeing this game, I’m 99% certain it was locker room nonsense and Banks is gonna have to live with this one forever.

He seemed like he wanted to make up for it today, but the damage was done.

You thought UT was the best team in college football?

No one will ever convince me that the defense in the SC game did not let them score 8 of 9 possessions. It's almost impossible to play that bad unless you are trying to. Having said that, I'm not sure what Heupel could have done ? how could he have known they were going to lay down pre game time ? I blame the defense coaches for not making adjustments during the game and also immature players who put their selfish paybacks over a great opportunity to shine on the national spotlight. If I was Heupel I'd be looking around for a seasoned defensive coordinator with a stellar resume

USC
They kept the mid and deep-range passes in check with a man press and a good push up front.
They went all in on offense and Tennessee couldn't stop the pass or "specialty" plays.
Carolina was better in special teams
Tennessee doesn't handle loud crowd noise well at all when traveling

Tennessee had zero counters either with attitude, athletes, or the crowd. They were owned all night, and it was a disaster that I do believe would repeat if played again, same as Georgia. I just don't believe the team had answers nor will they in the bowl game. I really hope Tennessee faces a run-heavy team that runs primarily zone for their bowl game. I see a lot of "let it be Clemson" and maybe. That might be a terrible matchup for Tennessee.

We entered the season hoping for no worse than a 8-4 season. Given that 2 years ago we were a pitiful 3-7. Last year, 7-5 with a bowl. This year we were #1 before the Georgia game. After that loss, still had playoffs within our grasp until the SC game. OK, Maybe not 11 or 12 wins this year in the regular season but a 10-2 season would have been a dream. I know the SC game put a bitter taste in our mouths and derailed what progress we have made up to then. How many on here would rather lose to Alabama again and beat SC and still be 10-2?
We conquered the big giant, Alabama, took care of a handful of a handful of other ranked opponents and responded loudly after a devastating loss. We now have accomplished a 10 win season for the first time in 15 years and look forward to a upper tier bowl. This team is in good hands. GO VOLS!

same defense different team.
Banks was back and you could tell his presence changed the dynamic and mindset of the defense.
However he still can’t catch the ball.
side note: 37 players left the team when Heupel was hired.
He did pretty good with the cards he was dealt.

I am disappointed Heupel hasn't been fired yet.

I hear that Kiffin has great interest in a reunion and he tweeted about us at 3 AM like a long lost love.

I don’t know how this team, lost to USC jr.
I can tell you how USC beat us. Rattler had the game of his life. He played unbelievably. If you took the best plays he made all year long and put them in one game, he still outplayed the highlight reel. He made passes into tight windows and was on time. He hit most of the receivers in stride and they won their matchups. If we played them last night we win.

As Bobby Dodd said a long time ago, we should always keep in mind the performance of our opposition as we critique the efforts of our program. South Carolina was superb that night, with a strong game plan and excellent morale. They demonstrated a great deal of that against Clemson yesterday. Hats off to the Ass Kickin' Chickens for what they have been able to accomplish at the end of this season.

Then we look at our own, see the performance from South Carolina, and assess the response.

Every coach has a moment where things just do not go to plan and every single thing falls apart. I saw Spurrier get absolutely jackhammered by Mississippi State in Starkville. He had no answers for Joe Lee Dunn's defense. Things got so bad, he decided to punt on 3rd and 31 rather than take his usual approach. Things ended up fine for them. They didn't cease being an SEC elite-level program because of that game.

This team could have done something like Ole Miss with Kiffin and spent this Vanderbilt game feeling sorry for themselves. Instead, they responded as good teams do when they've taken a beating. They dominated this game and did exactly what a Top 10 program should do to a Vanderbilt.

Disappointed with the South Carolina game? No doubt.

Pleased with the maturity and mental discipline reflected in this response? Hell yeah! Bodes well for the future of the program under this head coach, the players currently on the roster, and those who are soon to arrive at Tennessee.

For "locker room problems" they sure got fixed really quick. I guess the fan fiction goes like this...

Amazing locker room first ten games.
Terrible locker room S Carolina week.
Amazing locker room again.

This is what you have to believe to think we had locker room problems. That's a real praise Jesus miracle if that happened.

We don't have and have not had locker room problems with Heupel. We might have had some dudes get into it. That's football. Anyone who has ever played at any level knows that. That happens all the time. This team is clearly bought into their coach.

If there was a problem sometimes as a coach you have to take lock room or team culture over winning for long term success. It's called been a disciplinary. I'll take that over a undisciplined team or player anytime. Otherwise, you have the beginning of your dumpster fire.

Ultimately it has to fall on someone. I don’t think many want to except how difficult it is to get to the playoff. Not sure we get there even if we win that game as USC seems to be a lock if they redeem their only loss against Utah. If TCU or USC loses, in the conference title game, UT would have been all but assured top 4.

I give Heupel credit for fixing the locker room. There were obvious locker room issues last week, and it was obvious that got repaired by the Candy game. Another sign Heupel is the right coach for the program.

No extension, and White needs to let him know he's on the hot seat.
When you hear that Vol fans are belligerent idiots, this is the sorta thing they're talking about.

We just had our first 10 win season since '07, and we're going for 11 wins for the first time since '01.

.... and this is what we're talking about?

Good grief man. I'm embarrassed.

HEY, HEY, HEY!!!! Where the hell do you get off bringing any type of positivity in here???? This is volnation damn it!! We like to do nothing but whine & cry & complain about literally everything. We like to find one negative in a massive pile of positives & focus on that one thing. There is absolutely no room for positivity on this board at all! So take all the good things that have happened & carry them over to some other board. We will not have any of that crap here!
