Do we open as favorites against Florida? (Updated, opens at UF-1, moves to UT-3)

3 points is nothing. I really wish I had taken the points for Vols/ Georgia and put down a couple of big ones.

Considering the consistent lack of respect UT has gotten by the oddsmakers to date.... this is almost like being favored by a TD. Would like to see Pearson and/or Smith play. Sorry to hear about Bates. He was contributing well on ST's and in limited back up action.

We have a better overall team then UF.. If it wasn't for the streak they have over us the line would be much farther in our favor..

We also have Waaaay better coaching...

As long as we do not let off of the gas when we get ahead, this will be a convincing win..JMO

Spot On!! DO NOT LET OFF THE GAS!!:clapping:

This will be a battle. I don't like that everyone is counting it as a W. We have not beaten this team in 10 years. We have beaten UF only once at Neyland since 1998 (2004).

Your first two sentences are, in my view, meaningful and correct.

The last two sentences, however, have no bearing on this game.

Bettors is more accurate, although I prefer gamblers.

There is a huge difference between a group of people that could be called betters/bettors/gamblers, and those that can actually handicap games successfully. You could call the latter category "sports investors."

In reality, most people who wager are only betters/bettors/gamblers.

There is an elite cadre of people who bet on games that could be called investors in much the same way that stock traders are considered investors.

If you spend enough time consuming sports entertainment, it would seem impossible that people could actually predict the outcome of sports well enough to minimize risk to the point of calling it an investment. That is because the sports entertainment industry (ESPN et al) have no incentive to provide meaningful information in place of emotion and feelings. One look around here after a win or a loss emphasizes this point. There is very little in the way of rational evaluation and much in the way of hyperbolic hyperbole. The majority of those who bet are no different even if they believe themselves to be, which is why Vegas can stay in business.

You may have seen, so forgive if I'm repeating info, but Butch said Von is ahead of Smith at this point. Fingers crossed that at least one of them can play.

Line has moved again to -1.5 in Tennessee's favor. Not sure if I like so many people betting heavily on the Vols. Makes me a little uneasy

Alot of people are saying that FL has a physiological advantage over us seeing how we haven't beat them since 04. I say that's bullcrap this is a whole different TN team going in to this game. This TN team doesn't care about the past and I really do believe that they will prove it Saturday by putting a thumping on them gators!

Understands physiological.

I'd take UT and give the point.

If the line moved to UT -3 I still think that's a good bet. And while I think you win by even more than that amount, beyond 3 points its a little more scary, imo.

I wouldn't touch this game with a 10 ft pole unless it was Florida -10

I remember a year (late 80s) when the Vols were favored over Bama and playing at Neyland. We had a bunch of young players who didn't appreciate what was at stake. Bama handed them their butts. I hope that I don't watch history repeat with Florida. We should have won last year, but didn't. I hope the Vols play with the same intensity they showed at Georgia. If they do, there's nothing to worry about. If they think its in the bag, its going to be another long year.

Which, incidentally, was the last time I was in attendance at a Florida Tenn Game.

...and I will be there Saturday. Just saying...

Anybody that has been watching this series for more than 5 mins knows better than to ever count Florida as a win before the game starts. Don't care what the circumstances are.

Doesn't sound like you know a whole lot about Team 118.
