Do you trust Heupel ?

My biggest concern is how awful we have looked in our last 5 losses. 4 this year plus SC last year. It's not like we are playing to the final play. These have been double digit loses with the game decided early in the 4th. That's a big red flag to me and I'm concerned it's a gimmicky offense meaning when a team figures out how to stop it, were screwed. Hope I'm wrong I really like Heupel.

SC doesn’t count, they knew our signs.

First off, CJH is a pizzpoor motivator while we're in the midst of another blowout his QB is on the sideline dancing and laughing with his teammates. A responsible coach would have been over there chewing serious butt enough that Milton would have to eat supper standing up. Second, CJH IMO has very little personal pride, coming to game day looking like he slept in the same clothes 3 nights in a row and basically looking like a homeless guy unshaven, gut hanging over his belt and smacking gum like a teeny bopper. Things like this tend to rub off on his team which we've seen far too much of this year, such as the 2nd half Bama, a pitiful Florida and a blow out by Missouri, none of these games show any pride in the team. Third, he's not very good at game day coaching brought on by the fact he continued to play a QB who is nowhere near SEC level while having to dumbdown the offense due to a QB with a room temp IQ. That being said I like Heupel and honestly think/hope he can be a great coach but he has some house cleaning to do starting with himself. Show some freaking PRIDE and demand the same from your team.

I’m still all in with the Huep! The culture he has created is bar none. His offensive mind is incredible. He’s learning everyday just like the players and everyone else on the staff. I am not saying we keep everyone, just stating that we all make mistakes all the time and we should learn from them. That’s the process of life. We had countless injuries and we don’t have quite the depth we need. There were numerous calls/no calls that were ticky tack, extremely questionable, down right WTF and never even heard of before. Add in the typical mistakes most teams make throughout the season and the odds are severely against you. The players felt this as did the coaches too……. But they kept playing and fighting through it all. They didn’t quit and they still believe by what I’m hearing. That to me is huge given the circumstances.

Timing is everything.

When do you let people go? Before the bowl game? No. Before early commitment? No. Before signing day in Feb? (maybe). Before spring practice? (probably). The problem is that the coach you want (say DB coach) may want to jump before you're ready to hire.

I trust him just wish this stat was more in our favor, I think he stresses the defense too much with time spent on the field. Some of his going for it on 4th down can be questionable, but his stability is what we needed after a decade + of bad hires.

TOP -

89 to 151 in the 4 losses, average of 22 to 38.

We were dead last in FBS, ranked 133.

All I know is he has a lot of issues with players and coaches to get fixed before next season. Keeps saying better things coming we’ll see

Based on what? The only thing Lane has on Heupel is experience. I’d take Heupel over Kiffin.
Kiffin beat Heupel head to head for starters, & that was in Knoxville. He's winning big at a perennial doormat. He's produced Ole Miss only two 10 win seasons in school history. Lane & Josh are both offensive guys, but, Lane's system is viewed much more favorably amongst NFL folks, & his offenses, on the whole, are much more sustainable, & less reliant on certain personnel to be successful. SEC coordinators have figured out how to stop Heupel's offense by season 3, whereas, Lane still has it rolling in season 4. We found out two major things this season with Heupel. 1.) He needs elite talent at QB & WR to be successful, & 2.) He's lost calling plays without Alex Golesh. Next year is gonna be even worse. We're losing BY FAR our best playmaker in Wright, & only have Sampson returning with zero proven/experienced depth behind him. The QB position might be marginally improved, but who knows what to expect from an inexperienced RS freshman. We should have a much better feel for how Nico can do by now, but Heupel refused to get him in games all year. We're losing a few OL starters off a really average line to begin with, & there's zero underclassmen to be excited about. There's zero TE's returning, & one decent, proven WR, with total unknowns behind him.

Defense doesn't look much better as we've losing quite a bit on that side as well. And, again, the young guys are total unknowns. They'd apparently rather put a walk-on in at a DB spot after injuries instead of playing one of the numerous young, blue-chip guys standing on the sideline. We get Pearce back on the DL, but lose a ton of depth pieces there. The obvious solution to all of this would be to hit the portal HARD this offseason, but Heupel & company have proven to be extremely poor at landing those guys. We'll be fortunate to win 6 next year, & he'll be gone by 2026 at the latest. Then, we get to hire the next coach to come in here & fail for a few years, & get fired himself..

Doom and gloom it seems for you. Do you realize that Ole Miss and UT are within 2 yards of each other in yards per game. Ole Miss is almost 3 point per game better this year but that’s mostly due to a 73-point outing against Mercer. Defensively we’re a little better than Ole Miss in both categories. You also have to realize Lane has been at Ole Miss longer and he has more overall head coaching experience. Yes he’s had 2 10-win seasons but even when he was at USC he was an 8-4 coach. That’s about what he’s been at Ole Miss as well. He’s a decent HC but we know what Lane is. To me, Heupel has more upside.

no--he seems to be a mid coach. a program stabilizer but will be held on to too long. people will say that 9 wins (with the bowl not the regular season) is good enough and then those people will laugh at programs like Ole Miss or Kentucky.

he can obviously change a lot of peoples minds by shaking up his staff, but he seems to be way too loyal to "his guys".

something tells me we will be firing up a coaching search in 2026.

I trust him, for the time being.

He built a lot of goodwill last year, but some concerns certainly surfaced thus year.

I figure he’s got through 2025 before he’ll feel any real heat.
Yep. This season, while disappointing, does not change his security here. If we have a similar season next year (getting blown out by rivals, playing bad on the road) then the seat will start to get warm.

Weak schedule for 24? Really? Bama, UGA, OU and UF. Not sure what NC state has next year but they are ranked right now.
UF is at home, so we'll win that.
OU is in Norman, Oklahoma (where ever that is) and it should be moved to half the distance between the two schools. 9 hr 55 min drive (688.1 mi) via I-40 W and I-40 or 4h 20m flight on American Airlines for $189 or 5h 26m for $149

NC State is in Charlotte, NC

We have 7 home games, so that's kind of nice. Vandy is a road game, but they're so bad, it doesn't matter if it's home or away, we'll win that.

We'll be so good, we should probably play 2 games a week. An easy home game on Tuesdays and our normal Saturday schedule. If we go 21-3, that would be one of the best seasons ever played in history of NCAA football. We'd break most of the records too.

I disagree with most of this post. I will agree on the motivator part. I’d love just once for him to get mad, at anyone.

Whenever we catch a bs call, he just gives a frustrated smile. Meanwhile, Vandy’s coach went nuts (And I’m all for what he did).

lol.

Last year everyone said they trust coach, but this year they don't trust him with Nico. I still trust him, I think he did the right thing for the team, and the right thing for Nico.
I was in the camp that felt like Heupel walked on water and that we struck gold with him. Now, I'm not so sure. After going back and seeing some of the comments from OU and UCF boards, I'm starting to be concerned. While he's certainly a players coach, I'm more on the fence right now. Still, I think it's important to avoid snap judgments and allow him to flip this roster and get his kids. After this class and next years class, Heupel will have his "product" on the field. At that point, we'll know better as to what we have in this guy. Is he Hal Mumme or Steve Spurrier? Not sure yet.
