Do you want Bama to win just because they're in the SEC?

I typically cheer for everyone in the SEC outside of Florida and Bama. Hope Texas and Cinci destroy them. I would say I would probably cheer for complete removal of football from America before I would cheer for Bama or Florida. Would love to see Teballs cry again, and I hope Bama loses on a blocked field goal!

A great day for UT football would be to see Texas pick McElroy 6 times and return them for TDs and Ingram to fumble every time he touches the football in the NC game with Bammer being unable to score and losing in a humiliating blowout. Along with Tebow and the Gators only mustering 2 field goals and he and Spikes hugging on national televison crying into the cameras for their last game as they get blown out by 30 in the Sugar Bowl. Go Big Orange, no weenies or wimpazoids in our program!

Another way Bama winning WILL help Tennessee. We get to be the ones to knock off the defending National Champs and McElroys perfect record at Neyland next year.

I say HOOK 'EM HORNS!

Some think it makes the SEC look better. I say I'd love an 8-2 SEC bowl record (gators and Bammers lose).

We benefit nothing from an Alabama national championship. Ask yourself this: Would Alabama fans cheer for Tennessee in this game?

I have several Bama fans who pulled for us in 1998. They didn't really like TN winning, but the were rooting for the SEC.

I'm not going to hate Alabama all year long just to turn around and root for them in the biggest game of the year. That's retarded. That's like going for the Yankees in the WS when you're a Sox fan.

Got to cheer for the SEC, it helps with recruiting overall!

You really think it helps Tennessee recruiting to have our rivals win national championships? You know that we go head to head with these teams for players every year, right?

It's amazing that people think that their success somehow rubs off on us and makes guys want to come to Knoxville. That's as nonsensical as if a Falcons fan like me went around crowing about how awesome of a season the Saints were having because they're in the same division.

Screw the SEC. Screw Florida, and screw Alabama, and screw Georgia and LSU and Auburn and Ole Miss and Mississippi State and Arkansas and South Carolina and Kentucky and Vanderbilt. Screw them all. Go Vols.

The posters on here that are pulling for Texas to win must not have to put up with the arrogant jerks of Pronghorn fans like I do. I hope UTjr gets pounded by Bama!

I root for all SEC teams in every bowl game and people who root against in-conference rivals just to spite them are mouth-breathing morons, and here's why:

Mouth breathing Moron's Argument:
If Alabama wins the national championship, it will make it harder to recruit against them.

Smart person's response:
First, you have to weigh the recruiting advantage that it gives to all SEC teams, particularly the better ones, to have the national champions (or other prominent teams) come from the SEC. You have the cementing of the impression for recruits everywhere that if they play in the SEC, then they stand a better chance of getting television and media exposure and of moving on to the next level. If SEC teams do poorly in the bowls, then that diminishes the lustre on all SEC teams in recruiting.
Second, the number of times that a specific recruit might pick Tennessee over Alabam because Alabama made it to the championship team and lost, versus made it to the championship game but won, is tiny and probably not worthy of comment. How many recruits are going to pick UT over Alabama because Alabama lost their BCS game? Please.

Ah, so you've bought into the fraud too.

I don't just want you and Alabama to lose your BCS games. I want you to have no success at all. I want you to lose all of your out of conference games; I want you to lose all your bowl games; I want your schools to be wracked by scandal and lose scholarships. I want your coaches to be busted with hookers and blow. Why should Tennessee fans give a crap about the "lustre" of the SEC when we're 7-5? We've got a program to build, and we're going up against several of the most dominant programs in the country, so cementing the status quo helps us not at all. It's as close to a zero-sum game as you'll find in the real world. What's good for Alabama and Florida is good for Alabama and Florida. Not Tennessee.

Yes, that makes sense because the tremendously gifted cornerback is going to want to go to 7-5 Tennessee where he can compete against what you would prefer be the functional equivalent of the WAC.

Yeah, because UT really had a hard time recruiting when Bama and Florida were down about 5 years back.

Okay, so we get a cornerback from Virginia or someplace because of the overall "lustre of the SEC." But you guys get a cornerback too, and now because you're the one winning championships, you beat us out for an extra elite DT. Same thing with Alabama; they get a cornerback too, but they also beat us out for a top RB in Memphis. This is a net loss for us. We're not competing with the country as a whole; we're only competing with Florida and Alabama and Georgia and LSU and Auburn. Losing ground relative to those teams doesn't help us at all.

Imagine if you will an alternate history in which USC beat UCLA as expected in 2006, so UF didn't sniff the championship game, and in which Oklahoma came out quickly and handled UF in last year's title game. Would you seriously argue that Tennessee football is somehow in a better place right now because Urban Meyer has those two rings?

Simple answer....GO LONGHORNS!

If Jesus himself told me for me to gain entrance to heaven I would have to become a Bama fan I would choose to go to hell. Cant stand the sight of crimson, cant stand elephants because of Bama, hate their fans, hate the coach, hate the stadium, hate every part of the program from the field maintence crew all the way to the president of the college. Hook em horns (and I dont like Texas all that much either)

That is a little harsh, but yeah, kinda feel the same way 'bout 'em. It sure is rough living in Bama having to deal with them every day. My wife is a huge Bama fan. She asked me if I was pulling for Bama against Florida. I said "No, I'm not pulling for either. As a matter of fact, if innocent people weren't hurt, I would not care if the Georgia dome blew up in the middle of the game". Needless to say, I slept on the couch Saturday night.

Yes, I want an SEC team to be win the title every year. It only helps the rest of the conference. LSU proved this under Les Miles several years ago. A multiple loss SEC Champion will still be in the National Title discussion simply because the SEC is so respected right now. Why would I want to cheer against that?
