Dobbs switches to legendary jersey number...

Bray played on a team with poor coaching, awful defense, and a weak running game. On the other hand, Casey's teams were much more talented and well rounded.

Casey threw for 56% in his senior year.

I remember our running game was somewhat better under Simms because we had no passing game. It's very similar to our running game now. We run the ball more because we don't have a qb who can get us first downs with his arm.

One year. Bray NEVER threw for more than 60%, and Clausen's career is over 60%.

Clausen never threw for over 3000 yards in a season. Clausen never threw over 27 tds in a season. Clausen never played on a team that had the worst defense in school history. Clausen was an inferior player who just happened to be on better teams than bray. That doesn't make him a better player.
If winning games makes you a better qb then I guess Trent Dilfer was a better qb than Dan Marino.

Clausen never threw more than 9 interceptions in a season, and ran for more than 1 touchdown in his career. Defense means nothing. There's no excuse for a "high caliber college quarterback" to throw as many interceptions as games played.

Bray had a 145 career qb rating. Clausen 139. By saying defense means nothing you made me realize I am arguing with someone who is obviously ignorant.

In an argument about how well a quarterback plays, save Ws and Ls, defense means nothing. You argue that if Bray had a defense, he would've won. That terrible defense gave him the ball 3 times to tie or win the game against UGA. He failed. End of story. If he had a good defense, would he not throw those interceptions?

If he had a good defense Georgia wouldn't of scored 51 points. A team that scores 44 points should never loose a football game.

Thanks grammar police/ignorant poster.

But you call me ignorant, but Clausen was intelligent, could read defenses, made smart decisions, could call audibles, could scramble if needed (as awkward as it was), would throw the ball away, could lead game winning/tying drives without turnovers, etc. I'll take that over what Bray added to the offense.

Agree to disagree.

Bray had a strong arm. If he tried to do that with today's receivers (as young, and inexperienced as they are compared to Hunter and CP), how many more picks would he throw? My guess is a lot, because he constantly threw into double and triple coverage and got bailed out by better receivers.

Marino won a lot more games than Dilfer ever did. Dilfer just won a SB.

And it was really a different era at the time. In the early 2000s, Clausen's #s were elite. Few players in major college football that weren't playing in some gimmicky offense like the run and shoot didn't throw for 3,000 yds very often.

QBs better than Casey Clausen don't quit so they won't have to practice for an extra month and then go to a boring bowl game.

I hate to be the guy that breaks it to ya buddy but Tyler bray threw for 3612 yds and 34 tds if you think that's weak you are smoking crack. Clausen only threw for 2970 and 27 tds in his best season. Clausen played on better teams. Bray was a much better qb statistically and in regards to talent.

Clausen had a full offense, and didn't run a one dimensional show. That may not be Bray's fault......but he had the pass and only the pass. When all you do is pass then yes you will have high passing numbers if your any good. Bray played in just 28 games and got 28 interceptions....Clausen played in 45 almost double and had 31 int......Bray even had more INT percentage wise then Kelly....and Kelly took a lot of heat on that.

Never got the Clausen hate. He was 2-1 against Florida, was 3-1 against Bama and never lost to Vandy or Kentucky. Who was the last QB at Tennessee that you could say has accomplished that? Iceman owned our rivals.

Edit: that 2001 team still haunts me though. A fluke loss to Jawjuh and getting beaten by a backup QB in the SEC championship game. They should have hoisted a crystal ball if they played to their potential.

Wasn't really a fluke loss to UGA. We were lucky Stephens broke that screen & then the squib of death & prevent D killed us.

I guess I meant we shouldn't have lost that game. I'll never forget that squib.....

It was a heartbreaker I was there & on my way out when Stephens broke the screen. That place was LOUD. Then to handle LSU in the regular season & look lost in the title game was disappointing. That said I'd take those days back in a heartbeat.
