Dobbs switches to legendary jersey number...

Tony Robinson and Tim McGee
McGee was just an awesome sight to behold AFTER the reception.

Very good at throwing ice cubes at teenage kids at a movie theater with his lil bro. .....I hate that pos. Iceman really was a good nickname for him
Regardless of your personal feelings towards him, he was a good QB. He won a lot of games and put up big #s doing it. Very few UT QBs in my lifetime have been better.

2001 could have been another NC, if not for the defense meltdown in the SEC title game.

First Hunter probably does deserve to be apart of this list, but his time here was really sadly too short....But the reason the numbers are so good was just because how one dimensional the team was.....Consider how Peyton for instance has multiple receivers up there in the ranks....or How Tee and Price racked it up even while we were owning the run with Travis Henry.

Bray's mistakes, are a big part of why I don't think I would put him in the top 5

Some ones I like better

Tee Martin and Peerless Price
Peerless's numbers are more impressive when you consider how much we ran and ran well with Henry.

Clausen and Stalworth
Clausen just owns Bray not even close. best since Peyton, and arguably better then Peyton on the road.

Manning and Joey Kent
no need to speak on this.

Ainge and Meachem
Meachem maybe weights this as Ainge could have been better at times, but man they racked up some numbers.

Tony Robinson and Tim McGee
McGee was just an awesome sight to behold AFTER the reception.

Kelly and Harper
Harper is just one of the all time great recievers, and Kelly was always GREAT in the 4th quarter as opposed to rolling over.

To me Bray was too weak over all...he had talent to be one of the best ever...but not the maturity or discipline to match. Hoping he fixes that and sees success in the NFL.

I hate to be the guy that breaks it to ya buddy but Tyler bray threw for 3612 yds and 34 tds if you think that's weak you are smoking crack. Clausen only threw for 2970 and 27 tds in his best season. Clausen played on better teams. Bray was a much better qb statistically and in regards to talent.

It's easy for Bray to have more yards considering how anemic our running game was during his tenure. Clausen had Henry and Stephens running for 1,314 and 1,464 yards respectively in '00/'01.

You can argue talent (defense), coaching, or whatever but wins carry a little weight too.

Someone please tell me why we're still seriously bashing a 34-10 QB who was 14-1 on the road. Have people been hibernating for the last 6 years or something?

The problem is, too many so-called Vols fans come from a background in which somehow fungi spores contaminated with the DNA of an Equus africanus asinus
mingled during their conception. So you see, they can't help being what they are, it's genetic. :hi:

Tyler was a better pure passer....Casey was ALOT better at leading the offense. Remember when our running game was much better with Sims as our qb? He didnt have the talent Tyler did but he was able to manage our running game. Casey could do both.

What I am saying is that if Tyler bray had played on a team that had a great defense( like the ones Casey clausen played on) he would won more games. He was a better qb than clausen period. He might not of won as many games but his talent level was head and shoulders above clausen. You should never loose a football game when you score more than 30 points. That happened to Bray quite a bit. Don't hate on Bray because of the inadequate defense we put on the field last year. With an average defense he would've won atlleast 10 games last year.

Last time I checked, defenses don't throw interceptions or under 60% completion percentage. Casey was better.

I'll just leave this here:

Clausen was a winner. Bray, not so much.

Tyler is clearly more physically gifted, but you see where that got you.

Bray played on a team with poor coaching, awful defense, and a weak running game. On the other hand, Casey's teams were much more talented and well rounded.

Casey threw for 56% in his senior year.

I remember our running game was somewhat better under Simms because we had no passing game. It's very similar to our running game now. We run the ball more because we don't have a qb who can get us first downs with his arm.

Not trying to be mean but that dog dont hunt.

Initially my point was that we attempted to run more because the passing game was not a viable option. Now that I'm looking back at these games, our running game was not significantly better with Simms under center (with the exception of the 2010 Oregon game).

If you cant pass I agree that you'll run more. Traditionally tho you'll have much better success with a ballanced attack....or atleast somewhat ballanced.

I was just going by memory but I thought we ran the ball much better with Sims...hmmm

Well my point was a that a qb's job is two fold. He has to manage the passing game and also the running game. This includes audibles, check downs, ect... Casey could do it all. He wasn't the pure passer Tyler was nor the field general Peyton was but a great combination of both.
