Doctors of VN

I think I got bit by a spider.
It's on my arm and been swollen for a couple days.

Looks like two little punctures. I've scratched at them and made them look worse than they are.

It's probably 2"s around and a slight read color.

Think I'll put some Benadryl on it.

Any opinions or things I should look for?

1. Don't use topical Benadryl. Steroids will help with itching.

2. If redness expands or begins to streak up your arm, or for a firm or fluid-filled center, see a doc.

3. Brown recluse bites may progress for a week or more and will ulcerate and turn dark/purple. There isn't really any treatment for them.

take a sharpie and draw a circle around it to see if it expands or gets smaller...If it expands go to the Dr

Take a sharp knife and put it in a flame to sterilize. Take a swig of 101 wild turkey and slice across both puncture marks and suck the venom out. Reheat blade with flame and cauterize wound.

Clean area with alcohol. Draw circle around the inflamed area to see if it enlarges as above.

You DO NOT want to start a secondary cellulitis infection by scratching, SO dab of triple antibiotic cream from the drugstore and a bandaid. And for your own sake, DON'T SCRATCH.

I was a medic in Vietnam. A soldier got a mosquito bite, scratched it and got cellulitis. Tough guy was going to weather it out. It moved so fast from his forearm to his pecs and lats he almost lost his whole arm. We got a pennicillin IV started and got him down to Danang and they saved it.

DON'T scratch it. kiddiedoc gave good advice. If you can't see a doc, CVS has physician assistants or nurse practicioners who are backed up by docs.

Don't they use something called a z-pack? Steroid treatment right?

I got bit by a spider one day and I believe that's what the Dr. Gave me. I was 12 so I don't remember to much

You have a ring around the bite? If so, mark it with s sharpie so you can tell if it's getting bigger. I got bit by something and the bite area was swollen and and hard (phrasing)... it itched worse than anything I've ever experienced. I bought a tube of After Bite and it was the only thing that helped the itch. It was diphenhydramine I believe. My neck got stiff a day or two afterwards too..... it sucked. I was taking leaves and loading them on a trailer wearing short sleeves. Won't do that again.

The oldest I ever came to passing out was packing a spider bite that had developed into MRSA on a basketball player when I was an Athletic Trainer. I was pulling the packing strips out. It was about 115 on a Sunday afternoon and I hadn't eaten anything and as that gook covered packing unfurled from the crater on his back the room literally started spinning. I thought i was a goner. It was so nasty

No see. This is quality medical advice.

If I was Chuck Norris....

Not sure where you are going, but fire away

When my son was roughly 2 he had ear infections constantly. We were recommended to a specialist.

The specialist wanted to put tubes in his ear(s).

So an appointment for it was scheduled. We took him in to have the procedure done. I was a wreck. He was my first born and I backed out of the surgery. Pissed my wife and the doctors off, but I didn't care.

I took him back to his pediatrician and asked her for alternative therapys.

She asked me then if he had chocolate milk regularly.
I answered yes. It was his treat. (He was still being breast feed up to 2 years- all the books I read suggested 2 years was ideal for breast feeding)

The dr then said to cut out the chocolate milk. The caffeine was causing the ear infections. A 2 year olds ears canals are not fully developed and the caffeine caused him to have acid reflux, which in return irritated his canals causing the ear infections.

We switched him to strawberry milk as his treat after that. Cody is 14 and hasn't had an ear infection since then.

When I asked her why she didn't offer this previously over surgery, she had no response.

We found him another doctor.

This isn't a pop at you. I respect you greatly. I just wish his dr had been more forthcoming on the issue. They just seemed so quick to do a surgery as opposed to diet changes to correct the issue.

Technically, it's the Eustachian tubes, not the ear canals. Like everything else, they grow with the child, and the bigger they are, the less likely they are to get blocked (which ultimately lead to fluid then infection).

Chocolate can exacerbate reflux, but it's more likely that he simply "outgrew" the infections. That's about the age most do. PE tubes are really just "buying time," giving the middle ear an external drain while the Eustachians grow.

Awesome that he never needed surgery though! I always reserve it as a last-alternative.

It probably smelled like freshly cut flowers, eh?🌷

Thanks!

I knew I messed up the terminology. (Please forgive me)

We have indeed been very fortunate with him. Hardly ever gets a cold. The kid is on the go all the time. Between church functions and the rodeos, he keeps his mom busy and both of our wallets empty. Lol

Can someone tell me if this is one sickness, or a combination?

Last week, I was very fatigued, sore throat, stopped up ears, etc. for about three days. Eventually, that went away. However, my throat is now starting to hurt again, but now I'm developing rashes on my face, arms and stomach. Could the two be related?

Hard to say, but Strep can cause a rash and can lead to rheumatic fever if not treated. I recommend you see someone to check it out.

I'm going tomorrow. I find it funny that last week from Tuesday-Friday, I had a a fever, nausea, fatigue, then from Friday-today, I've had rashes and bumps pop up onto my skin. Now, I have both. Was just curious if anyone thinks the two coincide.
