Doctors of VN

Earlier I got a piece of hot food hung in my throat for several seconds. Now my throat feels swolen and it's difficult to swallow. Is it going to get worse before it gets better?

Hey guys, anyone familiar with the abbreviations on a medical insurance card?

I'm stumped on "RC"?

OV = office visit
S = specialist
UC = urgent care
ER = self explanatory
RX = prescriptions
RC = ????

Dr. Sarge in the house. Barracks doc here.

Rx
2 x 800mg of motrin for every ailment and 2 x canteens of water

Everything is due to inflammation and dehydration!

Yep, came in with some Coumadin toxicity and developed a nosebleed that we couldn't stop.

Cocaine is a hell of a drug.

It has a dual action. It is vasoconstrictive plus anaesthetic, topically that is. Treated a lot of nose bleeds in the day and it was very useful. Most of my patients would have preferred not to have had the bleed as opposed to having the cocaine.

Oh yes, I knew why I had given it. Works very well constricting the vessels in the nasal mucosa.

They still use it today apparently but it's allegedly in a concentration that doesn't really allow you to feel it as though you just snorted it. With really bad bleeds they'll put balloons into your nose and inflate them.

We had to use a rhino rocket this past weekend when a bipap ruptured someone's sinus cavity after surgery they had several weeks ago.

Talk about cruel and unusual punishment. I hated nose bleeds. Concentration was a 10% solution as I recall.

Any orthopedic Drs out there familiar with Patela femoral mis alignment?

Evidently it's what's causing my right knee pain and foot pain. I almost feel like my right knee is about hyper extend at any moment.

DR has me taping it and taking a strong antiflammatory.

Problem is I can never get it taped back to the way the PT did it the first time. I know it shouldn't feel "comfortable" but when I tape my knee cap over it's like I can't do anything without it making me sick to my stomach due to the pain and awkwardness. It's called Medial MCConnell taping.

Trust me I don't expect a miracle response from any of you, just looking for other sufferers.

I had pretty bad Osgood Shlatters Syndrome in both knees and I was told the simple explanation is the tendon below the kneecap doesn't keep up with your growth.

But omg yes it hurts. Sophomore year (50 years ago ..jeez I'm old) I got cut from all sports because of it. None of the 3 Dr. in my little hometown would pass my sports physical. My son is just about to finish his residency as an MD and tells me that now there are treatments and PT for all kinds of growth and injury issues. I may not have had to quit if they existed back then. All I can say is make dang sure you're taping it right. I looked and there's a bunch of youtube videos on taping your problem. Even found thrm for Osgoods. Good luck with it.

Yeah I've seen the videos but they all involve a Pro PT actually doing the taping or a trainer.

DR. Said my issue is a result of fracturing my tibia when I was 19 riding Broncos in rodeos, the injury caused my quads to weaken and my hips to stay strong as well as my glutes causing the muscles to pull my patella to the right.

I'm starting to use KT tape like I've seen the olympians use, it's really thin and flexible and sticks well. I imagine my left knee pain is from putting more pressure on it and utilizing it more over time .

It sucks. Dealt with it for a year in HS then had surgery to fix it. How is your quad strength?

Just answered my question.

Yeahs it's not there, I've now been recommended by my PT to go buy a 170$ pair of new balances that will improve my gate and posture, hopefully ease the foot pain and get me back to working out.

I swam in high school and trained for triathalons while riding broncs in the winter, I need to join a rec center with a pool again and swim.
My weight is at 230 I'm 5'11" and need to get down to 185 where I was at 22 and in great shape

The only thing that fixed mine was surgery, they had to go in and surgically break my leg and then relocate that piece of bone/tendon attachment.

My vastus lateralis was much stronger than the medialis so the VM just couldn't counterbalance it, though with that congenital misalignment I don't know that I could have ever overcome it without the surgery.

Surgery is the only thing that will permanently fix a medial patella femoral ligament. Sometimes they will do a tibial tubercle osteotomy to relocate the Patella tendon insertion point to the proper spot on the tibia. They may go in and scope the knee and do some soft tissue releases also. How they decide to fix it depends on the severity of the problem. It's a tough rehab from what I hear but worth it if the patella is tracking so bad that it affects daily activities.

I am not a doctor but work in and around orthopedics. Sports Medicine is a portion of what I do.
