Does Anybody Else Love Chris Christie

I have no problem with unions. I see it as a way the workers can have a say. I know that's counter to most here, but that's how I see it.

there is a difference between workers having a say and the workers raping the public. when you start having public employees make 40% more than their private counterparts we know the system is broken.

$43K in tenn plus pension doesn't sound like that bad a salary to me. particurally in rural tenn.

I agree, but it's not getting rich. Keep in mind that is an AVERAGE salary. Most teachers in TN have 20+ years of service. Baker makes ir sound like teachers are the Standard Oil of the 21st century forcing the railroads to give rebates to them. Teachers are no where near to being Rockefellers.

how does an individual worker "have a say"? Union hierarchies are rigid and inflexible and individual workers must accept whatever the collective, through designated representatives, agree to.

I'm a non-union truck driver, and if I so desire I can bypass the chain of command and ask to see the President of the company. That's been the case throughout my entire driving career. That doesn't mean I get what I want, but at least I enjoy direct contact with management. Plus, I don't contribute dues to the Teamsters' Union, which has been corrupt since Jimmy Hoffa founded it.

the question is what they would be making if they weren't paying off the polticians. i bet private school teachers are making less. probably a lot less if you consider the benefits.

Do you know what the ratio is of union to nonunion drivers?

Union members have the same say as you do in determining our govt leaders, 1 man 1 vote.

no kidding, but I don't think that was your point and that's why I responded the way I did.

I wasn't clear. Your point was union members are slaves to the collective. They have 1 vote in union matters to elect representatives, contracts, etc. It's similar to our election process. Aren't we slaves to the collective as well using that reasoning?

it's similar, but not the same. For example, if a group of union workers doesn't like something the union is doing (like donating exclusively to democrats) they can't form their own, smaller group that petitions union management to change that policy. Also, I can stay home and not vote on election day. Show me a labor union that allows it's members to think as individuals. Keep in mind union support of the so-called Employee Free Choice act, which removes the secret ballot in votes to unionize a company's workforce.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a rabid unionist. However, if workers want to unionize, I have no problem with that. I don't like closed shops. Workers should have the choice to join or not.

they should also have the choice to de-unionize

Particularly when you consider the number of days that they work in a year. Most professions don't take off three weeks for Christmas as well as getting the entire summer off.

I watched Chris Christie on Meet the Press this morning. I would definitely vote for this guy for President. I hope he decides to run in 2016 and wish he were running for 2012.

The teacher's union has done more than anybody by far to foster my anti-union sentiment. Private sector unions only piss me off because they are allowed to collude and business owners aren't. Public sector unions are an entirely different animal.

GM, imo.
