In all honesty, Maymon looked like garbage in the time he did receive last year. His decision-making was questionable at best. He shot the ball nearly every time he touched it and was less than accurate.
We do have real scorers on offense Maymom and stokes can get 10 to 15 a game easy.
Now our young guys such as Golden and McRae are getting there. I think they could be great.
I believe richardson will be a great 10 to 18 foot scorer, but anything beyond that is up in the air.
He took a team that was projected to finish 11th and has a chance to tie for 2nd.
Maymon has become a 1st team All SEC player under him. Trae has improved immensely. He got Jordan McRae to buy in mid year.
This team has shown incredible improvement from December when they bought in.
His recruiting for 2013 is looking really good. He's in on a ton of good players.
He improved MO State from 11 wins to tourney champs in two years.
I love his always positive attitude. I love his defense first attitude. His offensive sets are looking better.
To be honest, there's not a lot to dislike.
With the SEC and NCAA tourney's just ahead, it's disappointing that we don't have Bruce Pearl at the helm. If Pearl had stayed we would have had Scotty Hopson, and he would have been a factor. While Coach Martin is doing his best ... it just isn't the same.
I would be interested to see what Scotty would have looked like under CCM.
No, I don't miss Bruce Pearl.
I appreciate that he turned our program around and made it to the NCAA Tournament every year he was here. I appreciate that he changed the culture around UT basketball and that he made us relevant.
I don't appreciate that he nearly destroyed everything he had built by cutting corners that didn't need to be cut. I don't appreciate that he embarrassed UT and got our program hauled before the Infractions Committee, nor do I appreciate the mess he left for Cuonzo Martin to clean up.
I wish him the best if he returns to coaching after he serves his time in the NCAA slammer. Except if he ever faces the Vols, in which case I hope he gets his head handed to him.
We have another coach now, and I am very happy with him. Bruce Pearl is old news.
Yep. I think I've seen enough to be confident that, as a basketball coach, Martin is an upgrade. The movement on offense. The effort on defense. Remember last year when the announcer said he couldn't tell whether we were playing man or zone because we weren't moving around enough? You'd expect Martin to have a higher ceiling as a basketball coach, given that he started out as a tough as nails player and Bruce started out in a mascot's costume. I don't even mean that as a shot at Pearl; it's just the truth. Pearl's exactly what this program needed a few years ago, but his limitations as an actual coach became apparent awhile ago. Now we need a basketball coach. And Martin looks like he's got a shot to be a good one.
A lot of people are going to hold it against him for a long time that he came from Missouri State. I think that's largely a Dooley-driven backlash, and I can't say that I blame them. Martin's not going to get the benefit of the doubt. But if he can recruit at all, he won't need it.
You're exactly right. The thing is, he was probably never going to b fired due to his performance. How crazy would it be took look back in 10 years and consider the situation that got Pearl forced out to be a lucky break?
This is just a stupid thread.
It's not like he was fired because of his W/L record, he was fired because it had to be done. Do I wish he had never done those things, yes, but he did and that's reality. If we had kept him, we'd be garbage for several years because of the punishments given to him.
As far as the Michigan game being an "anamoly" last year, apparently you didn't watch the whole season.
I am still amazed at how people who come across as a huge idiot can figure out how to work a computer. OP must of had help from a parent on how to post a thread.
