Does Nico play in Bowl game?

I don't understand why we can't get Nico into the game. Today is the most upset I've ever been in a blowout, why on earth does Heup refuse to put Nico into the game? Is he seriously afraid that we will lose to Vandy? Nico is the future!!! I'm thankful for Joe and love him, but we needed to get Nico some playing time. I was getting so pissed off seeing Heupel trot out Milton series after series when we needed to get Nico out there. By the second quarter I was steaming mad. And to top it off, I couldn't even watch Nico play because I threw my remote at my TV and broke it when Milton came back out at the end of the 3rd. I'll be doing a write up later this week on things that Heupel needs to know and this will be addressed.
Must be really fun to work with.

I can’t wait for Nico. I love the kid and his potential. But I would be just as happy is he disappeared from the fans collective memories until after the bowl game so we don’t have to live through another month of idiotic posts trying to stir sh!+ up with their PlayStation strategies that aren’t realistic in even the most extreme situations.

I’m a nice guy, but I’m tired of this conversation about something that isn’t going to happen
I grow weary of having to wade through the muck provided by the Rome and Basillio gadfly wannabes. Still think a DON"T LIKE button would be better than having to use the reply button to take exception. More reflective of the fanbase. Having to deal with when to trigger a response keeps actual COLLECTIVE feelings suppressed.

You people don't understand player development and roster management. Even the VQ guys were talking about it on the post game pod. Try to educate yourselves about how to run a college football team.
You are throwing remotes at the TV watching a Vandy game, and you're telling other ppl to educate themselves.

Seriously? You need therapy. Having Nico come in and hand the ball off against a glorified HS team isn't going to do much for his development. That tackle when he took off and ran made my heart skip. No need to risk a serious injury, then we have no QB heading in to next season.

I don't think he opts out. He's had so little actual playing time in 6 years of college ball, and I'll be shocked if he sticks on an NFL roster. He'll grab one more game if it's there and it is. Gotta say....Nico better be one very fast study. He's gonna be pretty green heading into that brutal schedule next season. I'm gonna go out on a limb and suggest that UT fans won't be terribly receptive or sympathetic to claims of "inexperience" by this coaching staff next season if Nico struggles and losses start piling up. Then again, if Nico gets injured early, Heupel will look like a genius...and you know how it goes with UT. Take the top 3 players you simply can't afford to lose and those are exactly the guys that will be bitten by the injury bug. Wouldn't it be crazy if we ended up having to play a true freshman next year due to injury after clamoring for Nico all season this year? This stuff almost writes itself.

I can’t wait for next year when we get all the “Will Merklinger start play?” threads.

This all reminds me of young children - they get a new toy, like it really well, then they get another toy and the first toy is put aside for the shiny new toy, then they get another one and the other two sit on the shelf in favor of the new shiny toy. It is the backup QB will always be better syndrome.

I dare say most good college teams do not play true freshman. If you are having to play a true freshman, that implies you have no depth at the position. Arch Manning just took his first snaps this week at Texas.

I find it odd that folks are so adamant about starting a true freshman these days especially at one of the most critical positions on the team.

Nobody cares about your write ups. Most of all Heupel.

To be clear, I did not expect or want Nico to be starting this year. He simply should have gotten more reps throughout the season though. As for next year, there may not be a choice if Nico goes down unless it's Shuler. We'll be in a similar situation to this year in that transfers are not coming to UT to sit. Everyone knows Nico is the defacto starter next season. Other than Shuler, who's left? What choice would Heupel have if not a true freshman?

I don't know. We do need a second QB. I agree we are not going to get one from the portal so need another 5* freshman - of course then all we will hear about is him and not Nico.

The great teams always have multiple high potential QB's, with one in waiting. I don't think many in our fan base could handle that.

Give it a rest

I agree. I think that VolNation is in the minority of Joe haters. He got a lot of cheers during the Vol Walk yesterday and when he ran through the T for senior day. I’ve never seen so many people hope to see a player on OUR side fail so badly.

You ever stop a think for a second that maybe Nico isn’t the future?? Maybe CJH isn’t happy with what he has seen from Nico and isn’t comfortable putting him in Games.

We'll see - if the portal brings in a QB that expects to start - we'll have our answer. I'm hoping it is more of giving Nico time to learn and grow in the system though.

I think we have to look to the portal for a QB. We will have Nico, Merklinger and Shuler?? That would leave us very thin a QB if an injury were to occur.

Milton is an incredible ambassador for the University. I for the life of me don't know where all this craziness comes from.
