Does the SEC still get 4 teams in the playoffs?

Yep, none of the non-sec playoff contenders (Ariz St, SMU, IU, Boise, MIami, ND) want to play a motivated 3 loss SEC team. The final four teams probably will see three SEC teams, unless we're set up to cannibalize ourselves in the playoffs.
I've been wondering that. Do you think the ratings will be better with cross-conference games initially or cross-conference games in the final 8/4?

The country may not be as interested in Penn St - OSU in first round or Tenn - Ga again right away.

There's no way Georgia would be out of the playoffs if they beat Georgia Tech and lose to Texas or Texas A&M. If you take Georgia out of the playoffs, you would have to take Tennessee out too because Georgia beat Tennessee. They're not gonna punish Georgia and have Tennessee ranked ahead of Georgia simply because Georgia lost in the SEC Championship Game.

That is not the way it works. If you go by those rules, then you can't take out Bama because Bama beat Georgia. And you have to put Ole Mis back in because they beat Georgia. And you have to put Vandy in because they beat Bama and you have to put Kentucky in because they beat Ole Miss. And you have to put Oklahoma in because they beat Bama.

And you would have to have those same rules apply to EVERY conference to be fair.

They should not be thinking that way as thinking that way would impact who hosts. It will be whatever it is.

It'll be interesting to see what the committee does with Bama. Last night really hurt a lot of people's feelings. They really want Bama in that playoff. I'm not convinced they get left out unless they lose again.

If UGA loses to Ga Tech then Texas in their rematch.
And South Carolina beats Clemson.
I think you could see Tennessee, Texas, and then South Carolina in the playoffs.

Beat Vandy and we’re in hosting an opponent.
The SEC has completely eaten itself up this year.
The SEC hasn't eaten itself there is not just one dominate team anymore. I think they need to add 1-2 more SEC ganes to the schedule and drop some non conference games. Same for the Big 10. If you are going to expand the conferences then expand the number of conference games.

Bama will be on the outside looking in. They will need help with those above them losing. Some of those teams would NOT drop below Bama even if they lost.

In my mind it really depends upon what the number 2 ACC team looks like. That conference is what will take the SEC slot that was there for the 4th SEC team.

I have been hoping for parity in the SEC for a looong time and finally got it, and it has made for a crazy season. Been fun. As far as the playoffs go, the big gorilla in the room is the playoff committee. No one can predict what crazy $hit they will do. Big surprises coming.

Also, sad day in Tide Land. I'm smiling.

The SEC now has only 3 left with 2 or fewer losses.

Its entirely possible that Texas loses to TAMU and gets a 2nd loss or that Georgia loses to Texas in the SECCG and picks up it's 3rd loss.

So the question then is exactly how many SEC teams will they invite into the playoffs?

Will it just be Texas, Georgia and Tennessee? What if Georgia loses a 3rd? Does the SEC only get 2 teams?

I mean what if Georgia gets a 3rd loss AND Tennessee loses to Vandy? Then you just have Texas left with less than 3 losses

What say you?
I think Georgia gets in with a 10-3 record (losing the SECCG). They have #1 strength of schedule working in their favor. I am not sure anybody else gets in with 3 losses.

It has been somewhat of a funny season, but I think you mean parity

I have a feeling we’re in store for more chaos next week. Penn State got super lucky yesterday to pull out a W. I can see any one of Oregon/Ohio State/Texas/Notre Dame losing next weekend. Hopefully UT handles business because Vandy has zero to lose and will throw everything and the kitchen sink at us.

The SEC will absolutely get four in, as long as a bunch of unmitigated chaos doesn't occur this coming Saturday (like the Vols losing to Vandy, UGa losing to Ga Tech, and/or Bama losing to Auburn).

Right now Texas, UGa, the Vols, A&M, and Bama are all poised to make the top 10 CFP committee rankings as long as the dominant team wins each week. If A&M beats Texas Saturday, then plays UGa close in the SEC CG (doesn't even have to win, just be respectable against the SEC champion), A&M is one of those four teams and Bama is probably on the outside looking in. In any other combination of events, the SEC four are probably UGa, Texas, Tennessee, and Bama.

But either way, think we get four in. Just win out, Vols, and we got it made.

Go Vols!

Too many "almost" impossible scenarios being thrown around.

Some of you guys must be getting ulcers worrying about the very slim possibilities.
