The SEC now has only 3 left with 2 or fewer losses.
Its entirely possible that Texas loses to TAMU and gets a 2nd loss or that Georgia loses to Texas in the SECCG and picks up it's 3rd loss.
So the question then is exactly how many SEC teams will they invite into the playoffs?
Will it just be Texas, Georgia and Tennessee? What if Georgia loses a 3rd? Does the SEC only get 2 teams?
I mean what if Georgia gets a 3rd loss AND Tennessee loses to Vandy? Then you just have Texas left with less than 3 los
I get that, just wonder if that'll ultimately be the thing. Would they want Indiana - SMU to be a game even though ranking may end up that way? Probably not. I can see adjustments being made for viewership numbers. They should not be thinking that way as thinking that way would impact who hosts. It will be whatever it is.
I'd say if UGA plays Texas in the SECCG then they both get in. 2 spoilers are lurking and add Vandy to Texas A&M and Ga. Tech. It's far from over, imo. There's no way Georgia would be out of the playoffs if they beat Georgia Tech and lose to Texas or Texas A&M. If you take Georgia out of the playoffs, you would have to take Tennessee out too because Georgia beat Tennessee. They're not gonna punish Georgia and have Tennessee ranked ahead of Georgia simply because Georgia lost in the SEC Championship Game.
The one thing I’ve learned over the years is to never speak in absolutes when it comes to the sport we love. If Texas A&M wins out, the SEC is getting four in. If IU goes out and gets up by Purdue (not going to happen), or if ND loses to USC (this isn’t outside the realm of possibilities), the SEC probably gets 4 in.
Oklahoma would be 6-5 in the Big 12, they would be 6-5 in the ACC, hell they would struggle in the MWC. Alabama absolutely can’t make the playoffs after that loss. Hopefully it would be South Carolina if the league got a 4th.
Depends on whether TN is ahead of IU tonight, no? There is an argument to be made either way.Prediction of Tuesday's rankings:
1. Oregon
2. Ohio State
3. Texas
4. Notre Dame
5. Penn State
6. Miami
7. Georgia
8. Tennessee
9. Indiana
10. SMU
11. Boise State
12. Clemson
13. South Carolina
14. Arizona State
15: Tulane
16. Iowa State
Clemson gets South Carolina at home Saturday, so I think Clemson wins - which will give the loser of the ACC Championship game the SEC's 4th playoff spot.
Teams hosting a 1st round game in this scenario would be:
-The loser of the Oregon/Ohio State Big 10 Championship game
-Notre Dame
-Penn State
-Texas (if they lose to Georgia again in the SECCG) or Tennessee if Texas wins the SECCG
Last 4 in if Texas wins the SECCG:
-Georgia
-Indiana
-Boise State
-Loser of the ACC/Championship or South Carolina (depending on how things go in the SC/Clemson game)
If Tennessee beats Vandy and USC beats Notre Dame.... that guarantees Tennessee hosting a playoff game.
Depends on whether TN is ahead of IU tonight, no? There is an argument to be made either way.
One thing I see people referencing is viewership numbers. That plays no factor for the committee, nor should it. I see this point made a lot, and it's wrong. Why would a committee member give a crap about ratings?
They don't look at that or factor it in, but I agree the Vols in Athens might be worst caseIf UGA ends up hosting a playoff game instead of Tennessee, I'm hoping Indiana is ranked higher than us, so we don't get the 9-seed with UGA as the 8-seed. That'd be brutal. Hopefully the committee will find a way to avoid SEC vs SEC and Big 10 vs Big 10 matchups in the first round.
There is no rationale for Indiana to be ahead of Tenn except for the fact the chair is Big 10.Depends on whether TN is ahead of IU tonight, no? There is an argument to be made either way.

I think the committee, as long as they don’t get blown out, are predisposed to not dropping teams that lose in conf champ games…of course, as of right now it would just be 1 spot drop that would put them on the road so it’s close either wayUGA has no path to hosting a playoff game. They won't be seeded high enough with 3 losses I don't think, they will get a bye if they win the SECCG.
NCAA investigators don’t have subpoena power unless they can convince a judge a crime took place (not just NCAA violations). This means they can’t get financial records or compel people to testify on the record if those people don’t want to.And Georgia too !! Funny how Satan left conveniently after NIL and no one investigates this university, but hunt down UT got McDonalds Money when I clearly remember seeing a video of Alabama player's cars, lots being over 40k cars.
well how would you ever possibly have that, since you don't have and won't ever have similar schedules? All we can do is beat Vandy and hope the committee thinks highly enough of us sitting there with 2 losses.
This will always be the problem with the playoff structure. Until the powers that be figure out a way for playoff teams to be determined strictly by on-field results, then the system will always lack merit.
There shouldn't be a committee. There shouldn't be discussion about strength of schedule or good wins or bad losses. It's where we're at now, and it will remain flawed as long as that system is in place.
