I think you’ve got it all wrong. I believe that they have been so empathetic of your troubles and your stress that it has left them physically and emotionally exhausted.
You need to apologize and give them treats.

Yesterday I talked to a friend, sounded like their cat was on the last leg. So weak, wasn’t eating. They took the cat to the vet today, thinking it was the end, turns out it was Covid and the cat is gonna be okay.

I remember reading about cats and dogs getting Covid from their owners. All those smoochies - poor things.
